Description:

The Happy Valley Tea Estate caresses the misty hills of Darjeeling,...

The Happy Valley Tea Estate caresses the misty hills of Darjeeling, overlooking the fertile Himalayan foothills. Established in 1854, its history is closely entwined with the origins and cultivation of Darjeeling tea. This garden, located in the town of Darjeeling, is home to spectacularly lush fields, endowed with a natural, breath taking charm. At Happy Valley respect for nature is expressed through the organic and bio-dynamic method of farming.

Happy Valley invites you to immerse yourself in the culture, history and tradition of the region by witnessing the process by which fresh tea leaves are withered, rolled, fermented, dried, sorted and graded to produce a variety of teas; the traditional black tea, green tea and the exquisite speciality teas.

A guided tour of the Happy Valley tea factory offers visitors a glimpse of the fascinating process of manufacturing tea. The tea tasting session, curated for first-timers, is conducted at the end of the tour, where one can discover the legendary flavour of Happy Valley organic Darjeeling teas.

Happy Valley teas are available in retail packs at the factory boutique for sale.

The guide, Sitham, was very helpful and explained the process of tea making so nicely, that now I know which tea I am having and whats the best way to have it. Just went to Happy Valley Tea estate yesterday on an unschedule tour with my 13 year old son. To our utter delight this was a most informative and interesting tour. We learned so much about tea making and had good laughs at how many times in the last few years we went for such crappy tea just because of beautiful... More

On 15.4.17 we visited Happy Valley Tea Estate with our son and we enjoyed it very much. The lady, Jaya who was our guide was well informed and willing to let us know all minute details we were asking. We saw the machines and the process was explained. Then we tasted different types of tea and was explained their usefulness.... More

Enjoyed this tour of the factory, our guide was very informative and handled a huge group of tourists well. The sales people at the counter are also helpful with details about the tea and the manufacturing process. There is a fun informative poster near the tea tasting section about tea traditions around the world. They are also different kinds of... More

GOOD: A good tour within their factory. Though the processing was closed when we visited. Ideal time is to go there between 8:00 am to 9:30 am morning in the season (perhaps march to may) when they cut and process. NOT SO GOOD: Approach road negotiated steep slope. space for only one car. couple of times 2 cars from opposite... More

One thing let me make clear that visiting the Happy Valley Tea Estate does not necessarily include a visit to the factory. There are two ways to do it: 1) Do get down on the main road from the Padmaja Naidu zoo end.. You will find a cemetery and a beautiful statue of Jesus Christ.. do climb down from there... More

they charged 100 rs for each and we had 8 people. All they showed us was empty rooms. If no production was in progress, I suggest they show you a video of the process. It is ridiculous to pay and just see empty rooms

This was a very interesting place to visit. One of the highest tea gardens in Darjeeling and supplying 95% of its tea abroad, including to Harrods in UK. Tour explained the process of making the various types of tea and a tea-tasting was inlcuded at the end. Well worth a visit.
