We had a short ride with the steam engine as it broke down on the way. But the experience was all part of the fun. A Diesel came and rescued us and we still were able to see the sights.

If you are in a mood to enjoy nature good to ride. You have to have enough time in your hand. It takes long hour to reach Darjeeling. But if you are in hurry do not travel.

Funny little train wends its way down among the houses and shops of Darjeeling, inches away from front doors and windows, ending up in another little station with rather poor rail museum. Not essential but a pleasant way to spend a morning.

A great experience for train lovers and those who just want to experience riding on the toy train. All the TV documentaries don't really do it justice. A thoroughly enjoyable day out.

Much is written about this joy ride on the toy train. I did not find it worthwhile. In the season the tickets are to be booked in advance by using the official website of Indian Railways. We had done so, but as this is not the season, we could have purchased them at the station. This joy ride is of... More

During our visit to Darjeeling had a chance to board the Joy ride of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. Out of two joy rides available, we took the Steam engine driven train.Other type is Desel engine driven train. It is a two hour ride which takes tourists from the Darjeeling Railway Station to Ghoom Railway Station and back with a halt... More

It is a great excitement of toy train among the tourist, but I qould recomend not to have a toy train joy ride at darjeeling as it is on the common way of your Sight seeing ride and it only stops at two places at the time of reaching ghoom, 1. Batasia loop 2. Ghoom, and at the time of... More

the toy train at darjeeling is a world heritage site and no doubt it should be one. it travels parallel to the road at a very slow pace and one can have great views along the route.

Riding the Toy Train of Darjeeling Himalayan Railways (DHR) has always remained a coveted experience to the tourists, however there are two types of rides one can take on the Toy Train - one is from NJP to Darjeeling and another is a Darjeeling Joy Ride. The former one is a 8-9 hour journey. We took the Joy Ride. There are... More

I had bought 3 toy train tickets for December 25, 2015. (Train no 52574 - Diesel - 11 am.) We had to wait for some time after which the train was cancelled for technical reasons. The Darjeeling station master told me and fellow passengers that fare will be refunded automatically since the train was cancelled. Till today ( January 30... More
