The area
Neighbourhood: Mylapore
The religious and cultural epicenter of Chennai, Mylapore is highly revered by the locals and tourists for the rich history and architectural marvels that line its narrow alleys and markets and is one of the oldest residential neighbourhood of the city. Home to a cluster of tree-lined avenues full of popular churches and the renowned Kapaleeswara Temple soaked in Dravidian architectural vibes, Mylapore is filled with small lanes with old-style homes, music auditoriums and stores selling music and religious memorabilia. The bazaars selling jewellery, fresh produce and flowers that surround the streets of this neighbourhood provide a colourful backdrop to the temple. Aimless strolls through the small lanes lead you to hidden corners of some mouth-watering south-Indian dishes served at local places like Maami’s mess, Jannal Kadai and Kaalathi Stall.

One of the oldest club/auditorium in the City. This club, I presume, has lost its prominence. I understand that few events and tuition classes are held here.

This place is very old and has not been upgraded in a lot of years. The seating arrangements are mediocre and the audio systems are poor. The hall has AC facility which is turned on and off depending on the crowd. Parking is at a bare minimum-dont bank on it. The organizers/management are rather helpful though.

The place is right next to a famous hospital and located on a rather crowded road. After a concert, it can rather painful to find a cab and get away from the locality due to restrictive one-way traffic arrangements.

One of the very old sabhas in Myalpore. While tradition is being maintained there can be more modernity in the upkeep of place to attract more audience

The Mylapore Fine Arts Club has been in existence for about 67 years has been with several Prominent Citizens as Patrons and hosting Tamil Plays, Classical Dance and Carnatic Music Concerts.

We had an opportunity to be here recently to watch "Bombay" Gnanam's All Women Troupe presented a Great Play on the Life of Ramana Maharishi. The Characters were portrayed with great flair in simple Tamil Language so that even little children could understand. The Organisers had placed ads in the newspapers to invite people without any entrance fee. Tokens were issued on 1st come 1st served basis for the seats and a huge audience had turned out.

The Hall was full with people standing to watch the Two-hour play. The Girl who acted as the Senior Ramanar was too good with tough competetion from girl who acted as Chettiar's wife.

Mylaore Fine Arts Club''s Auditorim has been sprued up and the Air-condtioning effective in spite of the big audiance.

My first experience with Mylapore Fine Arts Club two days back was horrible. I had booked a ticket for Madhuvanthi Arun's EE VA KA on Ticketnew. However, the management refused to recognize the ticket as they had not authorized online ticket sales. I have booked numerous tickets for various dramas using Ticketnew and this sort of thing has never happened. Thus, I can't take the argument that Ticketnew posted the event without authorization. The management is rude, is living in the 1970's and has no clue/awareness about websites such as Ticketnew and Bookmyshow.
