About
Close to Marina Beach, yet another architectural wonder from the 8th century can be part of the itinerary. An intricate pyramid-shaped rajagopuram (dome) stands prominently and is the main feature of the temple. As anecdotes go, the British were unable to pronounce the original name, Thiriallikeni, and rechristened it Triplicane.

Neighbourhood: Royapettah
Another busy neighbourhood that is a center of trade and commercial related sctivities is the famous and popular Royapettah. Apart from being known for its many tourist attractions, Royapettah is a favourite shopping and entertainment check in for all budget travelers. Popular for shops selling home fabrics, traditional sweets, furniture and house décor, it can be quite a delight for all those looking at packing in a range of quick shopping on a busy touristy day. For those seeking to take a break from a shopping agenda, visit the magnificent 150-year old Amir Mahal – one of the largest palaces in the city or chill at Amethyst, a nostalgically posh haven that's outrageously popular with expats and well-off Chennaiites for its creative menu and beautiful range of artefacts and jewellery.

There was no other temple on our task list that we had to go to when we heard about this Parthasarathy temple. It was famous as my cousin bought a car after he visited this temple in Chennai. He was lucky. WE felt blessed by the deities in this temple.

You'll have to be there to feel the vibes. Its one of the oldest temple in the city, It'll definitely give you a good feeling once you visit the place. Check for the festivals and auspicious days if you want to avoid the crowd.

This is perhaps the best temple in Chennai to get a genuine feel for the Sri Vaishnava faith and how it is practiced. I wouldn't go expecting to get great photos, or any photos; just go for the experience, especially at times of ceremony, which can be moving, even if you are of another faith. You are unlikely to be bothered in any way, in fact, when we visited, the worshipers were only too glad to help and include us and to point things out. Wear suitable attire (no shorts or sleeveless tops).

It is a very colourful temple, different parts of it having been painted quite differently and using different tunes. The temple is dedicated to Vishnu and contains several interesting statues. It is definitely worth the visit.
Note that one should be careful to avoid the crowd (and pick the time of the visit accordingly, preferably in the morning and not on a special event day. Photography is forbidden and one should remove his/her shoes before getting in (which is normal in India but surprised me quite a bit).

One of the oldest vishnu temple well worth visiting. As usual it was very crowded as the next was a special occasion. Non Hindus are not allowed in the inner sanctum. ABSOLUTELY no photography. Having a guide helps to explain the history and various religious aspects.well worth the time and effort. Will recommend but will go earlier in the morning on a "not so special "day.

Non-Hindus are allowed allowed inside the temple of course after taking special permission. But westerners if they are Hindus they can have dharshan without restriction. Normally one is allowed up to the sanctum and not inside garbha griha.

We are planning to visit the Sri Parthaswamy mandir in January. We are western vaishnav devotees. We have two questions. 1. Is there any difficulty for Westerners entering this temple? 2. Are cell phones/cameras allowed? (Some hindu temples do not permit any type of electronics inside, some allow but disallow photography) Any relevant details would be much appreciated. Hari Bol!

They allow camera and phones inside, however photography is prohibited.. they only allow Hindus in the temple, being western Vaishnav devotees, you should be fine

Yes. The Maha Samprokshanam took place recently and the main deity can be worshipped now! This happens once in 12 years.
