Neighbourhood: Mylapore
The religious and cultural epicenter of Chennai, Mylapore is highly revered by the
locals and tourists for the rich history and architectural marvels that line its narrow
alleys and markets and is one of the oldest residential neighbourhood of the city.
Home to a cluster of tree-lined avenues full of popular churches and the renowned
Kapaleeswara Temple soaked in Dravidian architectural vibes, Mylapore is filled
with small lanes with old-style homes, music auditoriums and stores selling music and religious memorabilia. The bazaars selling jewellery, fresh produce and flowers
that surround the streets of this neighbourhood provide a colourful backdrop to the temple. Aimless strolls through the small lanes lead you to hidden corners of some mouth-watering south-Indian dishes served at local places like Maami’s mess, Jannal Kadai and Kaalathi Stall.

I have been to this temple a number of times and each time I never fail to come away with hope, peace and utmost satisfaction. This Hanuman does that to you. I always love the priests' fervor in the poojas and the quaint ambiance of the temple.

In and around Mylapore there are a few Anjaneyar temples .I have a specific reason to write about this temple managed by Shri Chakravarthi And his Family through a family trust .
Its a small quaint temple with Venugopala sannidhi and Tamar sannidhi .
This has a huge following with people from far and near and three kala pooja are carried out .
The added attraction is people after having a dharshan gets to have a one on one meeting with Shri Chakravarthi who is a soothe sayer , who gives lot of solace and hope to people who have problems that are afflicting their lives .
Earlier anyvvisitor coukdcwaitvin a she and get to meet him .Butvsoncectge volume of people wantingv to meet him became unmanageable a system of long term.membership was initiated a nexus still in force.
Hanumath Jayanthi is celebrated withvgreat fervour each year .
But the single most difference in this temple and you will hardlybfindcelae where is the that the Moolavar Anjaneyar is depicted as Anugraha Anjaneyar rather than as Rama Bhaktha where the Vigraham has folded hands .Here the Vigraham has one plan up and one palm down which means he bestows boon to people who seek him out and pray to him with reverence.
It is forpointing out this difference I wanted this temple to be included in Trip adviser .
The offering are generally Thulasi garland
Vada mala or simple plain butter .
I conclude this post with a chanting
Mano-Javam Maaruta-Tulya-Vegam
Jite[a-I]ndriyam Buddhi-Mataam Varissttha |
Vaata-Atmajam Vaanara-Yuutha-Mukhyam
Shriiraama-Duutam Sharannam Prapadye |
Meaning:
(I take Refuge in Sri Hanuman)
Who is Swift as the Mind and Fast as the Wind and Who is the Master of the Senses, and Honoured for His Excellent Intelligence, Learning and Wisdom and
Who is Son of the Wind God and Chief among the Vanaras (Who were part of the Devas incarnated in the species of the monkeys to serve Sri Rama during His Incarnation),
4: To that Messenger of Sri Rama, I take Refuge (by prostrating before him).
Hare Rama hare Rama Rama Rama, hare hare
