We come to India each year and do many workshops based in block printing and natural dyeing as its the background we have.
This workshop is highly informative on the process and a perfect introduction into the two topics.
If you're not new to those topics however, we found the workshop to have some waiting around time and overlap.

It's nothing against the workshop itself and more to do with the level you are at.
We would love to see a more advanced level if possible.

That being said, anyone that enjoys printing and dyeing are going to thoroughly enjoy it.

You get a good hands on experience and the processes are just fascinating regardless of how many times you've seen them.

traveled to jaipur specifically looking to find the source of where block printed fabric comes from. look no further! this class is the most inspiring and educational class i've taken in years, all condensed down into 2 days. hemant is incredibly accommodating, picking us up from our hotel and driving us out to the factory where he teaches the class. he is surrounded by a community of generations-old skilled workers who make wood block printing look incredibly easy. the reality is that it's not that easy to line up the wood block prints, and it's clear that these workers are masters of their craft. my best friend and i attended the two-day class. the first day we dyed a scarf using a mud-resist dyeing technique with indigo, and the second day, we made wood-block printed scarves and paid extra to make 2 pillowcases. i walked away from this experience incredibly satisfied and eager to return again.

if i could make any sort of suggestion, it would be that we'd eat sometime closer to noon. on the second day, we didn't eat lunch until 3:00--that, combined with the lack of sleep was not a good combination for me. also, it would be wise to bring a roll of toilet paper and maybe some soap/hand sanitizer as the facilities are basic.

overall, i highly recommend this class if you're curious about hand block printing, creative, or just want an experience that is off the beaten track in jaipur.

I found this workshop through trip advisor, as a friend mentioned this type of textile work which is done in India, so I thought it would be an interesting and different from the usual tourist things to do. I was not disappointed - I had a great day! Worth doing.

My only tip is make sure you find out how to get there, as I had booked to do the 2 days, but on my first day, the taxi driver didn't tell me the correct time to get there, based on the address on the website, which is for the shop in town, not the place where the actual workshops take place - so get correct address and on the second day, my taxi driver had no idea where it was. It took me over an hour, but they were still able to include me in the second day workshop on indigo.

Really was worth the effort, I learned a lot and get to take home a piece of India's traditional craft work.

The 1-day block printing class in Bagru was one of the highlights of my 2-month stay in Jaipur. Hemant and his team gave a wonderful overview of the vegetable dyeing process and then let us dive in and start printing our own scarves. Jai Texart had a huge variety of blocks available for us to use as well as sample textiles for inspiration. The majority of the workshop was hands-on, and I only wish I had time to make more! If you have the time, I would highly recommend signing up for the 2-day workshop, which includes an introduction to indigo dyeing.

You can feel free to bring your own lunch, or sign up for a very reasonably priced lunch at Hemant's farm house. He was even kind enough to drive me back to Jaipur at the end of the day.

First off they were adamant about me booking with at least two people when I asked repeatedly if I could attend on my own if anyone else was signing up for the course the same day, so that I could join them. They wouldn't let me, so I signed my boyfriend up as well (who was really disinterested but didn't want me to miss out) and dragged him along with me ..only to find out when we got there that other people did sign up and he really didn't need to be forced to join me and waste his time/money.

I guess Hemant had the day off (who has stellar reviews) and we got someone else who was maybe his brother or something? This guy was unfriendly and completely disinterested in helping us or teaching us. He never really told us what was going on or did a good job explaining anything and seemed annoyed we existed. He was on the phone a lot or disappearing. He never told us where the bathroom was and then when people finally went to go use it, he started the block printing without them. Just seemed so rude and inconsiderate. Generally, we did a lot of standing around the whole day.

Block printing was started very late and you could tell people were fatigued and getting hungry. They could have streamlined the entire morning much quicker to get to the block printing so we would have more time with our designs. Printing was the coolest part and what we had all been waiting for. It's the experience we all wanted and will remember. Ignoring his hunger, my boyfriend even had a lot of fun coming up with his design and feeling creative. There were a lot of blocks to choose from and about 5 colors.

Lunch was served way too late in the afternoon after block printing when everyone (students and staff) was already cranky. The lunch was just dal and rice which was good but not a sufficient full meal.

I inquired again while I was there about signing up for more classes during my visit to Jaipur (hoping to join a group and not force my boyfriend to attend again) and our "guide" kept brushing me off and making me feel unwelcome that I decided it wasn't worth coming back to be treated this way.

I am disappointed because Hemant and Jai Texart have such great reviews but whatever guy we got really soiled this place for me. I had been looking forward to visiting here all year and planning our trip around it. I feel really let down that things turned out this way and I hope this guy is never put in charge of things again to ruin other people's experiences. Yes, I have a really cool block printed scarf that I made... but I wish it had better memories to go with it.

Advice for booking... make sure Hemant is there because he seems to be the light of this place.

We had a superb day at Jai Texart, learnt a huge ammount, had a lot of fun, and came away with scarves that we had designed and printed. This is an authentic printing works, and we were working alongside those who had been doing if for generations. The course was a lot of fun, and the instruction was really good. My teenage daughters, husband and I were the only ones on the course, and we all got a great deal out of it. Getting out of Jaipur and into an ordinary Indian village was an added bonus.
Our only regret was that we did a one day rather than two day course

My husband (a native to Mumbai for 17 years) and I recently spent two weeks in India. The first week we were in Mumbai to have our Indian wedding, and the second week we traveled to Jaipur for a mini-honeymoon. My husband stumbled upon Jai Texart's block printing day classes more than 6 months ago when he was looking for fun, creative, and worth-while ways to spend time in Jaipur/ surrounding areas, and he bought us both 1 day classes as a Christmas gift. In the 6 months leading up to our trip, I thought about the workshop daily in excitement. And I'm so happy to say the block printing workshop was even better than I hoped for. We learned about the history of block printing and dyes, methods, and then got to put our knowledge and creativity to use. We were in the same space as Jai Texart's block printers, and the leader of our workshop and the printers gave us so much attention and help in making our scarves. We got to select our blocks from their library of hundreds of designs, learned which blocks needed more or less ink, and how to print. My husband, an attorney who lacks the creative bone, found himself really enjoying the process and was quite proud of his finished product, as was I. Not only was the printing process fun, but being with the local printers, learning how they complete the printing process, and being able to ask them questions really added depth to the experience. We 100 percent recommend Jai Texart's Day Classes. Bagru is easy and affordable to get to, and the knowledge and experience is worth way more than the cost of the workshop. Also, a man who works at the Jai Texart compound offered to go into Bagru and pick up lunch for us, and it was the best dahl and roti we had ever had.

The 2 day hand block printing workshop was fabulous. It was well set up and introductory information really helped with the 2 days of hands on printing and dyeing. We were able to see all aspects of the process before hand and each part of the process was explained in a way that all would understand.
All the staff were so helpful, patient and there was a great deal of laughing. It was great fun as well as very productive.
I have a professional interest in the techniques and the use of vegetable dyes, and this course was really worthwhile. But anyone , whether they have an interest in block printing or not would enjoy this workshop.
It also gave me a greater appreciation of block printed fabrics and the colours and types of dyes that are used.

This block printing course was average. The day started off well and learning side of things was really interesting (for the first two hours) whilst we learnt about washing the fabric and the natural colourings. However the process of getting us to actually start block printing took AGES. The fabrics we initially washed weren’t even the fabrics that we ended up printing on as there were already some laid out for us - which was fine, except that we could have started block printing hours earlier which meant that the whole day would have gone so much quicker. Especially when it took an hour and a half drive to get back to the city. The other things I was disappointed in was that the main guy running it was on his phone the whole time - it was rude and unprofessional. Also they said the would provide us with lunch, which they did but it didn’t arrive till 3:30pm. And the chai tea and biscuits we got arrived after 12pm. Not great service.

first part of workshop is explanation about different natural dyes and how it functions . it may take 1.30 hrs , some time it may take more time because some of the participants want to know more into details . we have tea break after this session only . workshop starts by 10.30 and tea breaks is arround 12.00-12.15. noon . next session is traning of block printing and printing of stole . that takes 2-3 hrs. if some one order the food, it is ready by 2-2.15 pm . that day food was ready and we had also informed her about this . though she finished the printing work but her partner took more time to finished the printing. they finished the printing by 3.00 pm only . it so not correct that food was not ready by 3.30 pm . while comming back , most of the time highway remain jam . due to high traffic . that day there was very heavy jam and it took more than 1.45 hrs to reach to jaipur. we dont have any control on it . to have best experience , we deploy our best resource for workshop . mr hemant and udit are also responsible for day to day operation . we keep the mobile in silent mode during first session and during training time. we take calls only if there is very urgent matter . we take calls onlyafter these two session. if her expaction is that we should not take a call even she is printing her scarf , that is not practicle for us . one of the senior person always remain there to help them during printing of scarf . . thanks you very much for feedback . we will try our best to improve further .

My husband and I have just completed the 2 day workshop and it was a real learning curve for both of us. With my husband being a retired plumber he had never done any textile work at all, but over the 2 day workshop he produced 2 lovely hand block printed stoles. Our daughter has claimed one already. We are so proud of our work that we did there. Hemant and his hard working team are always handy to give advice and help where needed. Such friendly people. The only complaint I have is he doesn't start on time, always running late. For most people this wouldn't be a problem but for us in our seventies it meant a very late finish at the factory and on the second day we never got back to our hotel until 8.15pm we were totally exhausted. Also with the lunch it would be nice to have a vegetable curry instead of dhal both days. Go for this workshop it is so inspiring.
