Situated very close to Amber Fort, this stunning stepwell dates from the 16th century—or the 10th, it’s not very clear when. Stories abound about who had it constructed; some believe that it was constructed by a 10th century Meena king named Panna; others say that a eunuch named Panna Miah, who was a courtesan much favoured by one of the rulers of Jaipur was responsible for it.
The stepwell goes down to a depth of 200 metres, the water beneath being approached by eight levels of steps that descend in an intricate (and geometrically perfect) crisscross pattern. There are some picturesque domed pavilions around, but that’s it. You can be in and out of this place within ten minutes, even if you roam around a while and see it from various angles. Note that descending the steps is forbidden for reasons of safety. Also, there are a lot of langurs around; take care.
No entry fee is charged for Panna Meena ka Kund.

on the way to Amber fort is the beautiful stepwell of Panna Meena Ka Kund. Don’t miss it! This is a beautiful 16th century yellow-colored stepwell that lies in the shadow of the famous Amber fortress. Many are unaware that just next to the massive castle lies a yellow-colored stepwell, built in the 16th century. This step well was apparently a resting place for travelers, business people and saints. Also women came to fill their water pots here in the past. Panna Meena ka Kund is a square-shaped stepwell, with adjoining stairs on all four sides and a room on the northern wall. It’s believed this room was used for religious ceremonies before weddings or on popular festival dates.

Nestled near the majestic Amber Fort, Panna Meena Ka Kund is a hidden treasure that combines history, art, and nature in a stunning way. This ancient stepwell, often overlooked by tourists, is not just an engineering marvel but a piece of art. With its labyrinthine, crisscross steps, the well leads down 200 meters to a cool, tranquil pool, surrounded by the intricate carvings that add to its charm. The vibrant colors of the steps create a mesmerizing visual effect, drawing photographers and visitors alike. The four octagonal pavilions perched at the corners offer a serene spot for reflection.
Once an essential water reservoir and social gathering place for the local community, the stepwell now serves as a peaceful retreat, providing a calming contrast to the bustling city life. Despite its popularity with locals, the Kund retains an air of quiet solitude, making it a perfect escape for those seeking a brief respite. Whether you're exploring the historic Amber Fort or just looking for a unique place to relax, Panna Meena Ka Kund promises an enriching and unforgettable experience.

Hidden gem, Many tourists forget to visit this place. It is a very old step well where women would gather to talk and gossip while filling water in their pots. It's a 200ft deep well used for water storage during ancient times. It's worth the visit on your way to Amber Fort. The beautiful stairs that seem to never end gives you very good view. If you are photo freak then you can click lot of pictures. Entrance is free.
Note: You can't go down. You need a special permission if you want to go down.

On my second visit to Jaipur, I discovered a hidden gem I missed the first time around. This time, I decided to skip Amer Fort to ensure I wouldn't miss this stepwell. It's located close to Amer Fort but slightly off the main road, so be sure to ask locals for directions. The stepwell is well-maintained, and there's a seating area where you can relax and take photos.

Panna Mian Ka Kund also known as Panna Meena Ka Kund near Amber Fort in Jaipur is a hidden gem straight out of a fairytale! This ancient stepwell isn't just about water; it's a work of art with its intricate carvings and colorful steps leading down 200 meters to a cool, refreshing pool.
The crisscross steps add a wow factor, and the four octagonal pavilions at the corners create a peaceful atmosphere. This stepwell was once a vital water source for the community and a gathering place for locals, but today it offers a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. it's a popular spot for locals and a great place to capture unique photos.

On the way to the Amber Fort our guide had stopped for a little surprise visit here. The 450 year stepwell is an eight story staircase architectural gem that does not take a long time to see, but the pictures from here are simply stunning. What a marvelous public gathering place it must have been in its heyday.

Nizam came to take us around Jaipur at short notice, my friend could only travel by car - a very clean and comfortable car with bottles of water for us, We went on a city tour to Gaitor Tumbas - I had never been before despite going to Jaipur more times than I could count. Then Nizam drove us to Amber Fort and waited while I looked around. Then we went to Panna Meena ka Kund, I'm most interested in the Baoris in Rajasthan Nizam was curtious and polite he had interesting things to say about the places we visited. He stayed with us and made us feel very safe. The water Palace is so beautiful we had a coconut water there just to enjoy it for longer.
We wanted to buy textiles and asked Nizam if he knew a good place. Mina sat in the work room and the men ran textiles to her there while I went into the main shop. I found it to be very reasonable in rates and fast for making up the clothes. Well done Nizam - much better shopping experience than usual in Jaipur!
Like Victor Kiam, I liked the trip so much I bought a company!!!
10/10 Nizam

It seemed to be abandoned as there was nobody there in charge of entrance or anything. It is a fascinating piece of architecture and the steps would be quite dangerous if you attempted to go down them. The water is covered in algae but you could imagine what it was like when it was fully operational.

This place is not well known hence is not yet super crowded. Very beautiful architecture, going down the steps is not allowed but one can still easily admire the beauty of this step well. If you are visiting Amber Fort, this place can be easily visited. No designated parking area, No entrance fee.
