Even if the city is sunny . Beautiful for photos is it’s a clear day . But even in the mist . Great photo opportunity.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 January 2024
- Lakshmi BiradarBengaluru, India983 contributionsFort with India's largest cannon and breath taking view.Jaigarh Fort is situated on the promontory called the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) of the Aravalli range; it overlooks the Amer Fort and the Maota Lake, near Amer in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The fort was built by Mirza Raja Jai Singh in 1726 to protect the Amer Fort. India's largest cannon jaivan cannon is placed at the top of this fort. It is mesmerizing how they placed the cannon and other armoury at the top of the hills in those old era when there were no machines no roads! It is just beautiful. The views from the fort are great, If you go to the last point, you can see the full Amer fort from there. It was a breathtaking view. You can see the panoramic view of the green hills surrounding the fort. The view of the wall built along the hills resembles the Chinese great Wall and is one of the attractions of the spot.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 21 January 2024
- Nathasha uBangkok, Thailand239 contributionsMust do in Jaipur. Marvel at the fortAmazing fort you must look at the fort from a distance, across the lake, and then we went in our car through one very narrow road up to the gate itself so that we don’t have we didn’t have to climb all the stairs and then we took about one hour with a guide 400 Indian rupees standard rate to walk through the fort to learn about the history. You can cover this place within one hour through this guide and take some nice photos and marvel at the architecture. The must do when in Jaipur.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 March 2024
- khusistravellerRajasthan, India20 contributionsGreatStanding atop the Aravalli hills, Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur captivated me with its ancient grandeur and panoramic views. As I wandered through its rugged walls and explored the armory, I was transported back in time, imagining the fort's days of valor and defense. The Jaivana cannon, a marvel of its time, added to the fort's allure. Sitting amidst history as the sun set, I felt privileged to witness Rajasthan's rich heritage unfold before me, making Jaigarh Fort a timeless treasure.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 5 June 2024
- Daya PandeyBareilly, India20 contributionsAmazing Experience in JaipurA few days ago, I visited Jaigarh Road in Jaipur, and it was fantastic. The scenic drive offered stunning views and led to highlights like Jaigarh Fort and Nahargarh Fort, both rich in history and beauty. The road is well-maintained with great local eateries along the way. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Jaipur!Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 6 June 2024

Guide will not bargain on its fee because he will loot you by praising so much about shops product and will drag you into shop without completing tour. Product are fake and higly priced. Don't come under their false claims and promises about quality and return policies.
There is only canon otherwise it's average.

A WEALTH of attractions lie in wait for any visitor who makes the effort to clamber about in this hillside fort overlooking Jaipur.
It formed part of the city's defences and was built in 1726 to protect the Amber Fort and its palaces complex below.
Top of the the list of things to see has to be the colossal 1720 Jaivana Cannon which, at 50 tons, is claimed to be the biggest in the world.
This artillery beast swallowed 50kg cannonballs for fun and when it was test fired using 100kg of gunpowder it fired a cannonball 22kms. No wonder people didn't attack the fort!
A museum area inside includes some of the cannonballs together with collections of weapons and other artefacts such as shields, helmets and arrows.
For me the views stole the show, dizzying panoramas down to the Amber Fort below and across to more fortifications on the hillside opposite.
I also loved the views down on the other side of the fort towards more fortifications waiting for restoration. No one was allowed down there because of the threat of collapse and the risk posed by snakes but you could see the network of defences created all those years ago.
Jaigarh can be combined with a visit to the nearby Nahargarh Fort and provides a very useful guide to how defences operated when viewed below from the Amber Fort. Fascinating visit.

Jaigarh fort is nestled on top of the hillocks surrounding Amer. The fort was built to protect the city of Amer from the enemy attacks. The wall of Jaigarh measuring 30 km approximately surrounds all the surrounding hills making it the third longest wall in the world after Great Wall of China and Kumbhalgarh. The fort gives a beautiful scenic view of Amer fort, Nahargarh fort and the city of Jaipur. Its strategic position gives it advantage to scout long distances to protect the occupants from enemies. The fort also boasts of a huge water tank which can store water to cater to 10000 men for 2 years and a maze of canals crafted through the mountains to ensure that the tank is never empty.
The feather on the cap is the Jaivan Cannon which is Asia's largest wheeled cannon. Not to forget the handicraft showroom which displays ancient Rajasthani artwork and regional culture in their true spirit.

It is very spacious and large fort and needs considerable amount of energy, time and patience to roam around. Guides are available with fixed rates. It will take at-least 2-3hrs for checking out all major parts of the fort. Better not to go in a hurry schedule like 1hr or 1hr30min. in hand if you want to explore completely.

Jaigarh Fort is located above Amer Fort and can be accessed in several possible ways. Either by the tunnel connecting it directly to the Amer Fort below, or by an external road which climbs along the hill or via a winding road that taxis and tuk-tuks take.
Entrance costs INR 500 per person. Once inside the wall, on the right, it is possible to see the old foundry which was used – in particular – to manufacture the Jaivana, the cannon on wheels. From the nearby wall, the view is breathtaking over Amer Fort, the lakes below and the Aravalli range. To the left of the entrance, a succession of courtyards, not always well maintained, where we find, among other things, a museum which exhibits collections of weapons and objects that belonged to the royal family.
It is also through this that we access, at the very end, the famous Jaivana, the cannon which is said to be the largest cannon on wheels. It was made directly at the fort and was only used once.
Possibility of purchasing snacks or refreshments on site. Be careful of the monkeys which are particularly near the cannon. The whole thing is still a little dilapidated and there is rubbish everywhere. It's a shame.
Allow around 1 hour to see everything

The second most important fort to visit in Jaipur, this fort was built mainly to protect the Amber fort. The main attraction here is the Jaivana Cannon which was the world's largest cannon at the time of its manufacture and it was fired only once. The fort offers a beautiful view of the surroundings from the top. One hour is sufficient to visit the fort and photography is permitted.

We hired a guide, it lasted only maybe 30 or 45 minutes but worth it because there aren't many signs around to guide us. It is only seen from outside, the walls and the cannon and the water tank. There's a handicraft store where you can get shawls and purses, etc. It is not much worth it in my opinion, unless you have the extra time.
