- Lakshmi BiradarBengaluru, India983 contributionsMahal located in the middle of lakeJal Mahal is a palace located in the middle of a lake in Jaipur. No tickets are required, and it can be viewed from the road. There are no boating or water activities available. I would recommend to get the photoshoot done from here in Jaipur ethnic wear. It's very reasonable. Street stalls near the palace attract tourists. I bought so many bangles and home decor items.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 20 January 2024
- neeratravelerSan Francisco, California259 contributionsBeautiful- but only viewed from shore at this timeThe Jal Mahal was built with red sandstone in the eighteenth century. It was closed when I went and I could only view it from the shore. It has a beautiful setting and can be accessed by boat when it opens. The shore area is very lively with vendors selling street food, various ornaments and many other things.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 17 March 2024

- Geoff HSissinghurst, United Kingdom18,067 contributionsA shame you cannot visit itThe appropriately named Jal Mahal (Water Palace) sits in the middle of a lake. Looking so serene from the side of the lake, it's a shame that you cannot visit it. However, there is a convenient car park (with food and other vendors) from which you can take in its beauty and wonder why someone would build such a palace in the middle of a lake.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 May 2024

Its architectural beauty against the backdrop of the Aravalli hills was mesmerizing, creating a perfect spot for quiet contemplation and admiration.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 26 May 2024

- FHTR In RajasthanJaipur, India259 contributionsThe Floating Palace -Jal Mahal, JaipurThe Jal Mahal, which means "Water Palace" in Hindi, is a stunning pink sandstone building that appears to float in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. Especially at sunset, the whole place turns a magical pink thanks to the reflection on the water. Fun fact: even though it looks like a one-story palace, most of it is actually submerged underwater! The history behind Jal Mahal is interesting too. Built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the early 1700s, it wasn't originally meant to be a grand residence. Some believe it was a hunting lodge where the Maharaja could relax after a day out hunting ducks on the lake. Others say it was a place for royal parties and celebrations. Whatever the reason, it's definitely a unique and beautiful piece of Jaipur's history. These days, you can't go inside, but it's still a must-see landmark!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 May 2024

- SWLNNew Delhi, India595 contributionsHigh time to maintainCan be well.maintained after all it's such a touristy spot. Both people and the government are so irresponsible . So badly maintained with garbage and stinking sewage smell. I had come here a decade back and nothing has changed. High time this needs a social awakening call. Of course nice lighting at night and beautiful pics can be clicked. No parking available on same side so please be prepared.Visited November 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 15 November 2024
- Srujana OHyderabad, India133 contributions"Jal Mahal: The Floating Water Palace of Jaipur"Jal Mahal, or the "Water Palace," is an architectural marvel located in the heart of Man Sagar Lake, Jaipur. The palace, constructed from elegant pink sandstone, appears to float effortlessly on the lake's surface, creating a magical sight, especially at sunset when the entire structure is bathed in a soft, warm pink hue as it reflects off the water. Interestingly, although Jal Mahal seems to be a one-story building, most of the palace is submerged underwater, giving it a mysterious allure. Built in the early 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the palace was originally not intended to be a lavish residence but rather a hunting lodge where the Maharaja and his court could relax after a day of hunting on the lake. Some say it also served as a venue for royal celebrations and festivities. The intricate architecture of the palace, combined with its tranquil setting, adds to its charm, making it an enchanting sight from afar. Today, visitors can’t enter the palace, but the surrounding area is still a favorite for photographers and tourists, as the view of the palace from the banks of the lake is simply stunning. Though you can’t step inside, Jal Mahal remains an unmissable part of Jaipur’s rich history and a symbol of the city's royal heritage, offering a peaceful and picturesque retreat away from the hustle of city life.Visited November 2024Travelled soloWritten 23 November 2024

You can get dropped off along the side of the lake where there are viewing points to take photos of the Palace on the lake. There are many crafts being sold along here who want to sell you something so be ready to haggle. Don't miss the wildlife statues here of an elephant, peacock etc leading into an arch.
Busy area, no toilets that I could see so go before hand.

The still waters give a perfect reflection and so this is good for a photograph. You can only view this from the road and cannot go into it. It was a former hunting palace and is presently being converted.
There is a market in the area by the place that gives the best views. The lake smelled when we were there and dead fish floating in it. Our guide told us that was due to a chemical release the previous week.

It is now known as Taj Lake Palace. It is located right in the midst of Lake Pichola. Standing tall and beautiful in the middle of Lake, Taj Lake Palace is an 18th-century historic stay in the City of Lakes offering an ethereal experience of the era of kings and queens

Located in the middle of a lake, you can click a few photos from the roadside and spend some time here. There is no way to enter the palace. Visit this while going to or coming back from Amber fort or Jaigarh fort.

Just like my last visit in 2017, I am still confused why this structure was built. This time I had an even worse experience with a foul smell in the waters when we tried to get some pictures from the road. The hawkers on the street makes the things a bit more clumsy. This place can be avoided..

The Lake Palace of Jaipur is an architectural marvel. Nestled in the middle of the lake it is no doubt a treat to watch from the shore. However, as a tourist we are not allowed to enter the building and the charm ends with a few clicks from the shore. Hopefully someday it is renovated enough for the tourist to enjoy its glamour from within through a short boat ride.

Jal Mahal is ideal place for all age groups. Best time is evening in summers and sunshine time in winters. You can't go inside as it's closed for public but you can spend an hour for street walk and capturing the pics. In evening, bargain shopping is not a bad idea for local items.

Earlier it was free entry ,but now authority has started paid access to stupid market and see Jalmahal. Market entry staff behaviour was very bad they ask me to pay multile time for entry ticket even money has credited to their account.
When i ask to return my extra paid money they start talking roughly and came to fight with me.. I had worst experience here among all tour visit in India and abroad.

We had to stop roadside to view the Jal Mahal which is located in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. It was built as theatre. It is a beautiful site from a distance on a foggy day. There were plenty of traditional handicrafts venders and sellers along the roadside.

The water Palace Jai Mahal is so beautiful set in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, just to sit and view it is mesmerising. we had a coconut water there just to enjoy it for longer.
We wanted to buy textiles and asked Nizam if he knew a good place. Mina sat in the work room and the men ran textiles to her there while I went into the main shop. I found it to be very reasonable in rates and fast for making up the clothes.
Well done Nizam - much better shopping experience than usual in Jaipur!
Like Victor Kiam, I liked the trip so much I bought a company!!!

Jal Mahal is not accessible at all now. The only glimpse you can get is from the road.

I heard that Jal Mahal is open only on weekends, or maybe there is something special on the weekends, is it so?

Sorry I got totally confused. As far as I am aware you cannot go inside Jal Mahal, you can only view from the roadway across the lake. Great views in the evening when it is lit up.
