About
Elefantastic Sanctuary, A unique conservation project set inAmber, Jaipur, Rajasthan has been in operation since in the 2000's with a goal to provide a sanctuary & elephant rehabilitation center. Mission: To protect and conserve elephants in a natural environment and to provide a healthy and fruitful life for all those creatures under our care. The rehabilitation center is owned and managed by a former Elephant Rider (Rahul) and focuses on healthcare management only. Although Rehabilitation Center was established in 2012, my family involvement with elephants dates to over four generations; before the Rehabilitation Center materialized, As I pondered about the possibilities, I realized that I want to give people an insight into the lives of Asian elephants. This were are vast misconceptions across India that animals - especially elephants – are badly mistreated. I decided that I wanted to eradicate these misconceptions. This decision inspired me to start The Elefantastic.

A unique experience to connect with a gentle giant
The experience was as stated in their title: FANTASTIC! A wonderful opportunity to connect with these splendid animals one on one! We fed, walked, hugged and petted Sampa ( our 47 year old, dear domesticated and sweet lady) for several hours. She enjoyed every moment of it- tail wagging and “hummed” like a cat! Completely spoiled ! It was an emotional experience ! The handlers were very informative and ensured that we respected our new friend. To top off the whole experience we concluded our visit with a lunch at the owner’s house hosted by his delightful mother. What an amazing day!

    Exceptional
It was unbelievable!! The happiest day of my trip in India and one of the best tours I’ve ever had! It was such a unique beautiful experience to spend time with elephants. They were so cute and nice. I was laughing from joy non stop. That’s a MUST activity in India and such a memorable experience that is hard to put into words. Also, we are so thankful for the homemade delicious lunch at the end of the tour and overall, for your hospitality! Hospitality and customer service were exceptional

The address mentioned is just the booking centre and actual site is 15 km away from this. Pls. Visit accordingly. Per person cost is INR 5500 which seems to bit costlier for 3 hr package.

    Must Do!!!
We camped here and played with beautiful Shaku. The staff was so welcoming and were always happy to assist. The accommodations were more luxurious than we thought and I would consider it glamping. Comfy bed and very clean. They fed us dinner and breakfast. We got to see a show with dancers after walking and feeding the elephant. 10/10 recommend this experience in Jaipur!!

    Amazing experience
The experience is incredible! We don't walk on top of the animals, but rather alongside them, which, for me, is very important. We fed the elephant, painted it, bathed it, everything was wonderful. We met Shakku, a very docile and kind elephant, and we felt that the animals are very happy and well looked after. I highly recommend the Elefantastic experience!

Enjoy a 5 Star immersive, ethical Elephant experience!
Right from the beginning with WhatsApp communications Rahul, the sanctuary owner was prompt, clear and helpful. Further he provided assistance from our hotel in Jodpur to meet his taxi there with a transit to Elefantasic via a sumptuous lunch prepared by his mother, and in his family home. This was some of the best food we have ever eater in India with an outstanding Channa Masala. On departure the staff were very relaxed regarding check out time, and Rahul arranged a very comfortable taxi journey to Agra, providing a guide without any additional cost! Really their extensive hospitality for foreigners is generous indeed. Elefantasic is a settling and uplifting experience. It is obvious the elephants we met experienced genuine care with ample food being provided. They are well used to receiving human affections and enjoy contact. All staff are happy and helpful. We decided to do the afternoon and night packages. The overnight safari tents are top of the range with huge beds, bathrooms and in general the spacious indoor area allows for additional beds if required. A heater was provided which was welcomed and we did not suffer any cold. I recommend this establishment as a safe, friendly, and unique offering, allowing for the closest possible Elephant contact imaginable. Many thanks and Jai Ganesha 🙏

    A true joy!
My time getting to know the Elephants was a special moment in time. They are truly beautiful gentle giants. And clearly loved and well taken care of. The venue is immaculately presented and maintained. The tents were glamping tents of the highest standard. Staff were attentive and helpful. It was no trouble for the cooks to present me with Chilli free food as I am servery allergic.

    Safe and special experience
A must-visit if you’re in Jaipur. The elephants are clearly happy, safe, and well cared for. We had a wonderful time feeding, bathing, and painting Shaku the elephant, a learned a lot about elephants along the way. Vicki and the rest of the staff were knowledgeable and helped us get comfortable quickly. When planning your visit, be sure to call Rahul ahead for directions or to arrange a car because the site can be difficult to find. Highly recommend!

If you love wildlife and want to see the best of animal welfare then this sanctuary is highly recommended.

Since 2012 this family have withdrawn their elephants from the group that carry tourists up and around the Amer Fort. They did this to provide a better life for the elephants and they seem to have achieved this.

There are something like 24 elephants, one male and the rest female, of which six were rescued from elsewhere. All seem very happy and well cared for. That’s the important bit.

The experience offered is an opportunity to spend a prolonged period of time (3 hours or so) with an elephant on a 2:1 basis. It is both an amazing privilege and enormously intimate being so close to these marvellous animals. We rubbed and massaged them, looked deep into their eyes and rested our heads against theirs and against their trunks, feeling the low rumble as they communicated with each other. We fed them and witnessed at close quarters how their trunks can do the work of a primate hand or paw (but our hands can’t hold on to tens of litres of water before drinking it or showering ourselves!).

After about an hour and a half we were invited to decorate the elephants with harmless natural pigments before accompanying them for a long drink and a shower and scrubbing them down. A slightly wet but not drenching experience.

Finally we went for a long walk with all four of the elephants who were working that afternoon through the field at the back of the farm before a final feed, cuddle and farewell.

The afternoon finished with a simple but delicious vegetarian meal at the owner’s house, prepared by his mother.

There are now many other elephant experiences in Amer which claim to be just the same. Most offer other things too including elephant rides, climbing up the trunk or elephant tricks. That wasn’t what we wanted because we don’t think it is right and it’s great to see Rahul Sharma pioneering this alternative way of life for his elephants.

You need to beware the imitations. Make your bookings direct with Rahul and his team and even then beware in case your guide or driver takes you somewhere that looks the same but with a different name (that may offer commission for trade - which Elefantastic don’t). That happened to us but we were persistent and eventually found a tuktuk to take us to the right place. It was so worthwhile.

Well done to Rahul, his family and his team for making this happen.

I have seen some negative reviews on Elephtastic and I just don't get it.
We had almost 3 hours patting, feeding, painting, watering and walking with Samba who was one of 5 elephants being pampered by visitors that day. We saw 8 elephants on site that day. Her handler was a wonderful source of information and his English was good. The elephants eat up to 200kgs per day and I reckon we must of feed 100kgs of that. This is an elephant rescue and they are not the elephants that work at the nearby fort, we saw those walking the road back to their enclosure and it was not the same place. The meal at the family home is a quaint idea but probably needs more interaction from the family owners as to the experience you are about to have. There are no chains, no prods and no rides. You would have to be blind to see that these animals are not cared for. It was a wonderful experience that was the highlight of our 8 days in India. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who has a genuine love of elephants.

We read about Elefantastic online, and heard about how well they treat their elephants so we decided to give it a try whilst in Jaipur. Me and my partner had an amazing experience! For a very reasonable price, we got to feed, paint (with natural, non harmful colours) and then wash Muscan, a beautiful and friendly elephant. We then proceeded to go on a walk with her, on foot not on the elephant. We really appreciated the way they protect and treat the animals, which is sadly not the case with elephant companies we saw nearby. The sanctuary has 24 elephants, and 18 of them were born in the actual sanctuary. A must visit, and the owner, Raul is very accommodating and nice.

I cannot speak highly enough of our visit to Elefantastic and our wider your of Rajasthan which was organised by the company, including fabulous hotels with knowledgeable, friendly, English-speaking guides in Agra, Jaipur and Ranthambore National Park.

The service was personal and flexible and took into account the needs of our entire family including children aged four, seven and ten, for whom India is a wildly exciting but also challenging country. I have Indian heritage and have visited several times but can certainly say with absolute confidence that this was the best organised tour I've been part of, with excellent prices too.

The highlight of the trip was the visit to Elefantastic where we got up close and personal to magnificent beasts who were clearly loved and well cared for by the staff. All of these animals are rescued from circuses and the like or are the offspring of previously rescued animals (a programme being phased out). There was no riding or other practices that would be questionable to Western eyes.

Finally I must give a personal mention to our driver, Ajit - again organised by Rahul and his family - who drove large distances, kept us all incredibly comfortable as well as safe, and entertained the kids to boot. An absolute superstar.

I don't hesitate to recommend both Ajit and Rahul and will undoubtedly use them again on my next family trip to India.

I booked a dull day tour with Elefantastic Travel spending the morning at the usual must see tourist sights and also visiting craft areas. The tour also built in the kite festival which was raking place on the day and then the day was finished feeding and walking with the elephants at Elefantastic. The organisation was efficient and on time and the services of the guide and the driver were invaluable. We were also able to tailor the itinerary at short notice due to changes in my plans. I would never have seen or learned as much had I tried this on my own - in particular, the observatory was a real and positive surprise. It was an excellent day and good value.

The highlight for any tourist is of course the elephants which was a real experience. Finally a meal at the family home of the company owner was a unique end to a great day.

We picked Elefantastic as the Elephant sanctuary to visit during our recent trip to Jaipur due to their good record of welfare for their Elephants plus Rahuls excellent and informative email reply to my original enquiry.
We had a morning appointment and were lucky enough to be the only ones there so it made it a bit more special. Our experience was with the Mahout Dildar and his elephant Chantril who used to be in the circus and is partially blind.
All I can say is wow what an amazing time it was to be able spend that amount of time up close and personal with such a majestic animal. From learning what she eats, making up her feed for her, her treats of corn, to painting her with animal friendly paints to then washing it off with her and me and my husband getting equally wet.. After washing we went for a short walk with her to round off the trip.
At the end of our trip you are then taken to the owners mothers home for a vegetation meal which was excellant and very tasty.
I see a few bad reviews on here but I would not agree with any of the comments - we had a fab time and would definately do it again

We had an amazing experience at Elefantastic. We were picked up promptly on time by the driver from our hotel, and driven to the sanctuary. We even had time enroute for a couple of photo stops by places like the Amber palace.

Spending time with our elephant was a magical experience, from feeding and painting to washing and riding. We were kept well hydrated with drinks throughout.

The lunch meal prepared at the family home was an experience in itself, the vegetarian food was some of the best we had during our month in India.

We left Elefantastic feeling completely satisfied, and even though we have done elephant experiences in other counties, we have never made as strong a connection with the elephant as we did here. It also provided the perfect backdrop for a marriage proposal! Thank you Elefantastic.

I really can't fault this in any way. We were on an organised tour of India and had a day at leisure in Jaipur so booked this independently. The cost was 4500 rupees each. We were picked up from our hotel a few minutes earlier than had been scheduled (along with a couple from another hotel) and arrived at the sanctuary after around a 40 minute drive. As we got out of the car, we could see 4 elephants standing in the shade. Rahul's brother introduced himself (Rahul was poorly), we were offered drinks and another car of visitors arrived after a few minutes. We were allocated two persons to an elephant - ours was Sampar, a blind lady who had been rescued. Her handler Dildah (I think) was lovely and showed us how to feed bundles of hay and plants to her plus sugar cane which she seemed to love eating. Dildah's English wasn't too bad and he explained the care routine and showed us the best places to scratch Sampar. After we had fed and cuddled her we were able to use natural paints to decorate her trunk, legs and cheeks, which she tolerated with good grace! We then moved over onto the grassy area where we cleaned off the paints. Finally we were able to walk towards the village for 20 minutes or so before returning with the elephants towards the shade. There were no chains, prods or riding of the elephants - it was obvious that the handlers all cared deeply for their charges and I found it an emotional experience. As we'd been offered several soft drinks, once we'd used the facilities (clean, western style loo available) our car took us to Rahul's family house where we were served the best vegetarian Thali meal I had all holiday and we then paid and were transported back to our hotel, quickly and efficiently. All in all, up there with my best ever life experiences - I can't recommend it enough

You get up close to the elephants. It’s fun with kids who want to feed the elephant, observe them up close, can even sit on the elephant and bathe it. It’s a nice 2 hour break from the typical Jaipur itinerary. It is pricey though - note kids under age 5 are free.

While visiting Jaipur India with the Nomadness Travel Tribe, 19 of us visited Elefantastic on our "rest day". Our excursion began with the mother of the family who runs the sanctuary inviting us into her personal home and serving a traditional Indian lunch for 19 hungry strangers! Now THAT'S hospitality. Thanks to one of our Tribeswoman who speaks Hindi, we were able to share and learn about her family and culture.

Feeding, painting, washing, and walking the elephants (no rides are given here to ensure the wellness of the elephants) was a beautiful experience filled with wonder, hilarity, joy and peace. The crew who takes care of the animals were as warm to us as the elephants themselves, answering our questions and working with us patiently. An educational and joy-filled experience was had by all who attended. It was most definitely an unforgettable day.
