Completed a tour with the lovely Nidhi and Magic Tours in Jaipur. This was the second time we have toured with Nidhi, we first met in December 2017 when we completed a full-day tour with her.
This time we completed a walk through the bazaar in the pink city. Starting late afternoon, we wandered through the narrow lanes of the bazaar and being a Saturday, it was extremely busy. Nidhi provided us with commentary about the different shops and stallholders as we meandered through the different sections – weddings, jewellery, kitchenware etc. We stopped for a Chai at a well-known ‘safe’ Chai stall and also walked past the flower market before we took a rickshaw to an old part of the city. From here we walked around the back streets of Jaipur and witnessed how the local’s live and work. Really interesting and definitely off the tourist track. Nidhi’s English and knowledge of Jaipur are excellent and she knows everything about the beautiful ‘pink’ city. If you haven’t been to Jaipur before or have been before but would like to see a different aspect of Jaipur, would highly recommend booking a tour with Nidhi and Magic Tours.

We booked our tour through Magic Tours for the Golden Triangle tour (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur), and just got to say hands down the best experience I've had with any tour company. Jaipur was our final stop in the Golden Triangle Tour and we had a great time with our local tour who was super knowledgeable about all the history and painted a really beautiful picture of how the city came to be. We had visited the City Palace, then did a rickshaw ride around the old city and also did an evening home-visit to a chef's home where we learned how to cook several local dishes. The next day we toured Amer fort again with the same tour guide and she kept us really on time as we needed to travel back to Delhi and beat the traffic.

I would highly recommend going with Magic Tours as they are super reasonable and flexible with what your group needs and definitely made sure that we did not miss anything!

The reservation process with Suba was great and the 2 half days tours of pink City and the Amer Fort were amazingly guided by Bhagirath. And amazing local guide who shares a lot of details while also giving you tips for the city. Highly recommended if you are visiting!

The tour was excellent from start to finish, all 8 hours. The Guide, Ms. Annapurna, was very knowledgeable of the historical sites and cultural history of Jaipur. She was able to tailor the tour to our desires. She also provided insight and information about Hindu religious traditions and beliefs that was enlightening. Our driver was also quite skilled at navigating the crowded city streets. Overall, the tour was well worth the time and cost.

Hi Magic Tours thought of the smallest things to make us comfortable. Whether it was the stepping stool for the bus, the early check negotiated for an early flier or water bottles to keep us hydrated. They made us feel taken care of . . . This added to a well planned trip was like icing on a cake.

Had a four hour tour with Narendra and he was great, polite, knowledgeable, considerate etc. We saw a lot. Couple of little negatives. He had an idea of a shop that he wanted us to see but when we changed our dinner plans making it impossible - he pushed for us to go there, we suspected that he was due some commission. We found some fab shops ourselves which suited us much better and they were v near to us (Hot Pink and others) - he didn't recommend those .......hmmmm.
Overall though would recommend him and cheaper than tour offered by hotel.

Day 1 (Amer Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort, Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Baapu Bazaar)
Note: Entry to all forts/ Palaces & Musem closes by 5 PM, start early morning.

Amber(Amer) Fort (Best Fort in Jaipur, an audio guide would be helpful. Beware of tourist touts trying to sell show you Rajasthani Handicrafts Factory)
Jaigarh Fort (For the weapons used by the Kings, the largest canon is placed at this fort)
Nahargarh Fort (The only important thing to see is the Rang De Basanti famed water reservoir 'Bawri'.)
Jal Mahal (You can only see it from a distance, good for Pictures)
Hawa Mahal (No point in going in. You can take pictures from outside)
Raj Mandir (Catch a movie at the famous Raj Mandir in the evening and feel like a king)

Day 2

City Palace (Suggested Duration - 2 hours) along with Janter manter which is near by
Baapu Baazar (For some shopping. Very Touristy. You can bargain a lot. For example - You can get a set of male and female puppets for 50-60 bucks though they'll quote 200 upwards)
Albert Hall - The museum (give 1 hour)
Choki Dhani- reach there by 4-5 PM, enjoy the culture food and the ticket price is 500 rs, which includes you 1 whole meal in their kitchen and is worth the price :) stay there by late.

I hope it helps you for a memorable experience! Enjoy your stay!

I'd love to recommend Nidhi Misra as the most fantastic guide in Jaipur. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable but she is warm and charming and it was a genuine pleasure spending the day with her and her sister Tripti who is also a guide. They were both wonderful and made Jaipur and its fabulous history come alive. As a female solo traveller I particularly appreciated having a female guide (a rarity in India).

This tour was nothing special. Our guide provided very little insight into Jaipur or its markets. Essentially she just walked us around for two hours -- something we could have done on our own. (Actually, it wasn't even two hours. After 1 hour and 40 minutes, she declared the tour over. Since we were getting so little out of it anyway, we didn't object.)

I also didn't understand why she had us meet her behind the Wind Palace. This was confusing for everyone and required multiple calls to her. It seems so much easier to just meet in front of it. Everyone visiting Jaipur knows where that is.

Thanks for the review. Our point of view is below: First, about the beginning of the tour: The meeting point instructions were very clear - we said "Entrance Ticket Counter of Hawa Mahal". The front of the monument is noisy and crowded, there are lots of tourists, constant traffic and horns, and it is impossible for us to wait peacefully for someone, or locate someone with ease. The entrance ticket counter is quieter because fewer tourists visit the inside of Hawa Mahal. It also helps us to provide a better, more audible introduction to the tour since we are not forced to deal with so much noise. When you book your next guided tour with someone, we hope you will read meeting point instructions to avoid unnecessary wastage of your tour time. You lost time from the walk because you did not follow the meeting place instructions. And perhaps the initial problems made you annoyed as well, which is not the ideal state of mind to do a leisurely bazaar exploration. Regarding being able to "do this on your own" - I must respectfully disagree. Bazaar walks can provide insights into daily life, festivals, gender relations, culture, food, religion, agriculture, seasons, and this knowledge can come only from walking with a local and by engaging with them at a conversational level. With those who are interested and engaged, the walk often runs to 3 hours. We don't usually 'watch the clock'. My guess is that the magic just didn't work, which can happen sometimes. It looks like the conversation never took off, and for that I sincerely apologise. I'm really sorry that you felt you didn't learn anything from the tour. I'm also glad you posted this review, because it gives other travellers (who are reading my response) a chance to understand better what a bazaar walk is, and whether it is the sort of thing that will appeal to them.
