Worth seeing
Oct 2014 • Family
The museum has a large collection of more than 3000 sea shells. It varies in size, variety everything. The place is little far off and not much people know about it but it is worth seeing. The caretaker of the place will actually explain you everything and we enjoyed it.

Something different

Quite hard to find but fortunately my tuk tuk driver could ask some locals for the exact location. On arrival the place was shut despite it being after the advertised opening time, however, after waiting 15 minutes or so it did open. There was a very large range of shells over a few rooms, not an interactive museum but an interesting hour nevertheless. The shop was a little disappointing, had there been some more exotic shells to buy I would have. Maybe get your tuk tuk driver to wait as there weren't many around, I caught the bus back to town instead.

Wonders of sea in a desert
May 2013 • Family
Along with Amber Fort, City Palace Museum, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar and other places in Jaipur one must pay a visit to the above museum. This museum showcases over 3,000 species of seashells belonging to different classes, super families and families in a very striking manner. Different shapes, colours and sizes need to be seen to be believed to appreciate the great handiwork of Nature. Result of an unflinching passion of an individual, this unique collection in the only one of its kind in India.

best collection of seashells

the crowd here is obviously sparse because of the nature of the museum, only seashells but if dont mind seashells, or if you have any least kind of fascination with these, this is the most fascinating place in jaipur.

If you can tolerate a place dedicated to seashells

As the name suggests, seashells are all there is. nothing more at all. Now if you can enjoy those, you must visit this museum. The variety and display is breathtaking. That too so far from sea! I don't know how they made this collection, but well made.

A Shangrilla in midst of desert

Incredible (a) that an exclusive seashells museum should exist so far away from sea, and (b) there should be over 3,000 different species of them. It is a riot of colours with all possible shapes and sizes. The smallest one has to be seen through a magnifying glass while the largest one-Giant Clam- is 1.5 metres long and weighs 150 kgs. Simply baffling. The shells have been very aesthetically displayed and even the lamps comprise of shells hanging around them. The shells have over 100 rare and over 1,000 uncommon species. On top of it all, for the science buff they are all classified classwise, superfamilywise, familywise and specieswise. All of them are also labelled with ,apart form taxonomical details, their common names and ocean/sea in which they are found.
It is treat for the eye and heart and storehouse of scientific information for the discerning scholars. It is completely different from all other museums at Jaipur which only show the Jaipur art and culture. A MUST SEE FOR VISTORS TO JAIPUR.

Amazing....

Its an amazing collection of sea shells..starting from 5g to 150kg!!! So many types of sea-shells. Its very difficult to imagine how much hard work would have been put in to collect such a huge collection over a period of time. It is also very important to understand that preserving these sea shells also takes lot of efforts. Must visit this museum.

Outstanding collection of SeaShells

We were wondering what to do next at Jaipur having visited most of the monuments. While browsing came across this note on a Sea Shell museum in a state that has Desert and no coastal line

Located in a family colony, Malaviya Nagar this litte known place is a treasure house of more than 3000 Sea Shells from all over the world. Founded by Alice Garg the whole collection is awesome and we spent close of 90 minutes admiring the nature.

Please take some time out of your stay in Jaipur and visit them.

A lovely seashell museum in the middle of the desert. The collection is not large, but the seashells are from all over and are clearly carefully chosen and presented.
