This ‘Queen’s Necklace’ is a beautiful drive along the coast of South Mumbai stretching from Nariman Point in the south to Malabar Hill in the north. The sea-facing promenade offers a favourite break time for Mumbai locals – college students, families, couples, tea & coffee vendors, foot and head massagers and photographers often flock to gossip or just gaze at the skyline. The views during the monsoons (June till September) are particularly breathtaking. Studded with Chowpatty Beach for its lip-smacking street food, Bachelor’s for its unique ice creams and India’s oldest aquarium, at night the streetlights along this drive enhance the dramatic arch of the bay.

The experience was awesome watching these young guys practising cricket. Cricket is a big thing in India. Indians are very passionate about the sport. It was nice to see these guys enjoying themselves, doing something they love and spending time with friends. Have to admire them as it was so hot. The place was packed. I was surprised to learn hockey is actually the national sport of India!

I passed this large field many times over the past week. Each time there were many cricket matches taking place simultaneously, and lots of bystanders viewing the games.

More so on a weekend, it is the place where wannabe cricketers of India play for their schools, clubs, neighbourhood. High on energy and sun, place to lounge and enjoy in the heart of Mumbai. Political rallies and religious gatherings are banned in this 22 acre Oval garden lined with palm trees.

Oval maidan = cricket, pass by this iconic playground almost daily and can see future cricketers playing daily... one of the few playgrounds of this size left in south mumbai.. there is talk of taking an elevated line from Churchgate to Virar through this ground!!

A hub of cricket activity. Match after match along a long narrow ground. Watch out for locals coming up for a chat , walking with you and then wanting cash for a tour. Beware of being led to a place where you don’t know how to get back...Don’t pay a ridiculous amount, if you pay at all. Insuggest you just you stay and enjoy the Cricket!

It is a ground and is oval in shape i.e why the name.It is very near the Churchgate railway station,( walking distance ) and the Mumbai Court. It is a recreational ground and adults/ kids play lot of sports here, mainly cricket and football. It is also visited by people for just walks as well.

In a lovely part of Mumbai with the iconic Rajabhai tower on one side, this cricket field is not very well maintained and several games take place on adjoining wickets simultaneously!

We walked past the maidan in the shadow of Bombay university and High Court more than once during our December break in Mumbai. It was surrounded by coconut palms and several cricket matches were taking place on the large field but i didn't find it a place with any great features of interest.

One side of the Oval Maidan is lined with heritage buildings from the 19th century, the other side has Art Deco apartments.
We walked right through the middle on a Sunday and were amazed by how much cricket was going on. No wonder India is such a world leader in cricket! Cricket matches as far as the eye could see. And we even did some fielding when a ball was hit out onto the roadside!
There are food stalls set up outside to feed the cricket players. The food looked great. But we bought none, instead we bought a packet of huge balloons. Got 10 for 100 rupees and the grandchildren loved them!

We have been to the oval in mumbai last year during the week when it was almost deserted.
This year we first went on a Saturday and saw various teams in whites playing this was brilliant.
Then we went on Sunday and saw different games going on literally meters apart, then in the middle of all these games was a team of guys in whites with a referee, awesome, and people were crossing the oval.
Again a must to see especially Sundays at the oval.
Mumbai at it's best.
