Visit the temple in the middle of the day and outside of any ceremony.
This temple has a lot of charm, especially for its authenticity. From the street, we wonder where the temple is. At the entrance 2 poor sacred cows are waiting for us to buy grass to feed them. And the business seems to be working.
Then we pass through an alley with housing and a few statues. the choice: the steps or the elevator. I recommend the latter.
On a large esplanade there is the large ancient carved stone temple. Magnificent work. And then all the small altars around the esplanade where the faithful come to pray, on pilgrimage, to present the newborn or for a wedding. We stopped for half an hour simply to experience these visits and the prayers, and the little rituals.

Babulnath temple is an ancient shiv mandir in Mumbai. The actual temple is around 800 years old, however it was lost in time and re-constructed in 18th century. There is a steep climb up to the temple. There is also a facility of elevator which can be opted to reach the top.

Walking distance from the Charny road station ,Babulnath temple is one of the oldest temple. One can take the steps or lift to reach to the temple.
Try the morning time to avoid the crowd and also you will ample of time to sit inside the sanctum peacefully. The management is trying to keep temple clean.
but overall ,do not miss the ancient beautiful temple and feel the positive energy.

I don't know whether I will be telling something excessively contradictory but I must say we enjoyed and found Babulnath temple more peaceful and gracious than Sidhhi and mahalaxmi temples. One must visit this temple besides of course Sidhhi, Mahalaxmi and mumba devi temples. One can take excellent food just opposite Babulnath temple Soam of I remember correctly.

It is a beautiful temple located on a hill with many stairs to climb, but for those like me who don't want to do them there is a comfortable lift which for 1 rupee (return) takes you to the upper part of the hill where there is a splendid panorama, to take beautiful photos. Unfortunately you cannot take photos inside the temple.
This is a place where you can find some peace in the chaotic city of Mumbai.

A architecturally beautiful temple and peaceful place of worship, honouring Lord Shiva. The temple is located on a hilltop, so be prepared for some uphill walking. It is a short walk from Marine Drive. Many worshippers were present during my visit.

Babulnath is a Shiva temple situated on a small hillock near Girgaum Chowpatty,Mumbai, India. it is one of ancient and oldest temples in the city, Shiva in the form of the Lord of the Babul tree is the main deity in this temple. The faithful climb up to the temple and obtain Darshan of the Shivling and obtain blessings of the Lord. There is an Elevator also to take up to the temple.at a very nominal price. The temples is visited by lakhs of devotees on Mahashivratri festival which occurs once in a year and on Mondays and also in the month of Sravan )mostly July-August..
The history reveals that Babulnath Temple Shiva Linga and Idols were originally consecrated in the 12th century by the then Hindu king Raja Bhimdev of the region. Over a period of time, the temple was buried and lost over a period of time. The idols were re discovered (unearthed) in 1700 to 1780 time frame. The first temple was built in the year 1780 or so.
After unearthing, 5 original idols were dug out. They are: the main Shiva Linga, Ganesh, Hanuman, Parvati and one more. Out of this the first four are in the temple. The fifth one was immersed in the sea as it was broken when it was dug out in 18th century. Hindus do not worship idols which are broken and it is a common practice to immerse them in rivers, ponds or sea.
The temple height was considerable when built in 1890 but a lightning struck in the year 1960 damaged the spire which lowered the height of the present temple considerably. Till the 1980s Babulnath Temple was one of the Tallest structure & location in the city of Mumbai.
