About
Reality Tours and Travel is a responsible tour operator providing fun and authentic experiences around India. We invest 80% of our profits back into the communities we visit through our NGO Reality Gives. We are especially well known for our educational Dharavi Slum Tour that shows visitors the industrial and residential areas of one of Asia’s largest slums, located in the heart of Mumbai. We also offer city, village, multi-day and customized tours and we recently expanded to New Delhi and the Sanjay Colony Slum. Our tours educate visitors about the issues as well as opportunities in slums and hopes to encourage them to understand underprivileged communities better. We use 80% of the tour profits and 100% of merchandise profits to fund our sister-NGO Reality Gives that runs and supports a variety of programs in Dharavi and Sanjay Colony. Our goal is to provide authentic and though-provoking local experiences through our tours and to use the profits to create change in our communities. Our vision is a world where all tourism promotes cross-cultural understanding and local development. Our NGO, Reality Gives, provides young people in the local community with high quality education and experiences to help them maximize their potential. We do this by focusing on English, Computer and Life Skills classes as well as a series of activities and workshop in expressive art and sport. We run these program out of three community centres around Dharavi.

We loved every minute of this great tour. Our wonder guide - Hitesh took us on an amazing adventure exploring the narrow alleyways of the amazing area and the cottage industries that have developed - from recycling to garment making to pottery and leather tanning and leather goods. The day was finished with lunch prepared and cooked by a local family in their home.
What a moving way to finish our India adventure. I can not recommend this tour highly enough.

What an amazing tour. Our guide, Janna, was fantastic, meeting us at Churchgate Station, we travel by local train, a great experience, to Chowpatty Beach to sample a great range of street food from the local vendors. We then travelled into the heart of the city experience street food from different cultures that make up this amazing city. To add to our great experience, we happen to be in the city during Ganesh Chaturthi festival which lasts for 10 days. We had the opportunity to witness the local traditions and customs up-close, with the evening streets coming alive with drummers and dancers. Janna, knowledge and help was outstanding. A highlight of our time in Mumbai.

Worst experience ever. The driver they found couldn’t enter the city center. Lost luggage. Booked a flight on business class, but the return was overbooked. One person doesn’t even have a boarding pass. Two people got bumped to economy. Agency didn’t even try to rectify it. We had to call the airlines ourselves and even the airlines couldn’t help us. Stay far away from this agency.

mumbai is an amazing city and I loved it but there is a city with the city that everyone should visit- #dharavi the largest #slums in the world. Made famous by the film #slumdogmillionaire and book #qanda we went on a tour with realitytoursandtravel - part of the NGO realitygives who give back to the community and employ Dharavi residents. We had the brilliant Sabina as our guide. You can't take pictures when in Dharavi and tbh it's so nice to just be in the moment and respect that you are in someone's home.Learnt so much about life there and how innovative people are and what and how supportive the community is. We also tagged on a #streetart tour in a neighbouring area, where we could take pictures. A must do in mumbai

This was a fascinating tour that was led by a young woman from Dharavi. It was informative about the poverty and difficulties faced by people living here as well as the resourcefulness of the people. We felt safe at all times and it was great to visit Reality Tours and Travel centre where they educate young people. Overall one of the most interesting experiences in India.

Reality tours is unique. We did 2 tours: the Dharavi tour and the Bollywood tour. Both guides were intelligent, enthusiastic and very nice guys. Already travelling with them in Mumbai and speaking about life in Mumbai was worth the money. So different from many more commercial tours.
The Dharavi tour was an absolute eye opener for us. On the back of the shirts of the guide is written 'see the real India'. Well, that is what we did in Dharavi and it was so incredibly interesting. I will never think of slums again the way I did before this tour.
The Bollywood tour was ok. Our guide was fantastic but he was not allowed to guide us in Bollywood. Someone who works there did it. Bollywood was nice to see but I would have preferred doing other tours with reality (markets&temples for example).

This was unique and fantastic experience we definitely recommend to everybody. To see life in slum is the oportunity everybody should take. Our guide was excellent and explained everything we asked, it was really amazing to have a conversation together. It was a pleasure to meet people from the community, they shared so much with us and we are very grateful for that. Please, do not hesitate to take this tour!
