Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

This zoo is really really big and the approx walking distance from the entry to the exit would be around 3.7km. Fret not, the zoo offers a golf cart-like vehicle that can drive you around so that you can save your legs from the strain. The must visit part is the bird cage where the visitor has to go into... Spacious Zoo with lot of walk, Its the best Zoo of its kind in South. Try early morning venture into the Zoo. After 11 it becomes heavy to walk with Mysore heat especiallly during summer.

Been here at least 3-4 times in the past 5 years and every single time we found that it has been wonderfully maintained, the animals are taken care of (they even have adoption initiative for the animals), the place is spotlessly clean, with good eating and restroom facilities maintained in the premises. There is a lot of walking to be... More

Visited this zoo along with my family during the Diwali weekend & my word it was jam packed. Just about managed to park my car in the last parking slot available (my advice is if you are using personal transport, please avoid as it is chaotic) and got into the Zoo thinking that was the end of our troubles. Boy... More

A well maintained zoo. They have started animal adoption facility which is a good initiative. The birds and reptiles zone was closed due to bird flue issues, but animals are awesome. Good healthy animals which children will like. Especially Tigers, Lion and Giraffes.

The Mysore zoo really surprised . We has visited Singapore zoo this March and Mysore zoo is not much behind. We too the electric car tour due to lack of time. At 1 hr it is a rushed introduction to the zoo. We were surprised to see giraffe hippos lions tigers leopards chimpanzee variety of animals in large enclosures. If... More

One of the best maintained zoo in the country with good facilities. There are nicely demarcated walking map and one can easily cover most part walking although there is a electric car which can be taken for those not keen on walking. Facilities such as canteen is very good but a lot crowded as well. Zoo has most animals that... More

This is indeed a vast and well-arranged zoo. The animals were kept in good natural conditions. Try to book the electric car which moves along inside with guests. Otherwise you must walk almost 2-3 KM to cover most of it which is difficult for kids. However, this is enjoyable for kids and its suggested to visit during a Mysore trip.

A family trip to Mysore is a great idea, but going to the Zoo is the icing of the cake. The Mysore Zoo is organized so well, like a big circle with smaller little circles in it, One start by moving to the left and walking towards the different bird cages and lovely colored parrots, peacocks and other little birds,... Just for fun, we took the trip to this zoo. It was really quite a nice zoo. We saw elephants, tigers, birds of every kind and the most amazing thing was we saw cobras. They were in a tree inside a moat. And they were all up in the tree where we could see them. We were grateful to be... More
