Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as

Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

Still has the same charm as the first time i visited. The zoo needs a bit of upkeep. Especially the bird sanctuary. It's still one of the better zoos around.

The walk is approx 5 kms and it takes a min of 2.5-3 hrs to visit entire zoo at a decent pace. There is an option of battery operated car. They also have a Restaurant. Drinking water and restroom facilities... More

This one is very big and to see whole place it will take at least 6 hours and walk of approx 3-4 kms. Water facility is also available at... More

Took my 18 month old son to Zoo. He was so thrilled and excited to see so many animals for first time and he enjoyed it thoroughly. Felt maintenance was not good as before and few animals were missing(compared to last time). But still worth paying a visit.

This is a well maintained zoo close to the Mysore palace. The zoo has a good collection of animals, birds and reptiles and the lush greenery all around is truly refreshing. There is also a good restaurant inside the zoo. Overall, a good place to spend time while in town.

After Mysore palace this is the second best place in mysore. Don't miss it especially if you are with kids. Very well maintained zoo with variety of birds and animal species. Good thing is that you can lot of factual knowledge mentioned besides the cages.
