This temple is on the edge of backwaters of KRS Dam. The approach is circuitous. After reaching KRS main gate, one has to take right turn, and follow the road, seek directions on the road, and travel about 10 KM to reach the temple. But, the effort is rewarding. Some Industrialist has shifted an old temple which was sunk in the dam, and reconstructed it on this land. Of course, entire temple material is not old. In fact, at least 90% is new material, but architecture more or less follows that of original temple. Here and there, they have mixed up Hoysala architecture with Vijayanagara style. Stone chariot is one such example, which belongs to later period. Rather unusually, in this temple, there is no continuous worship, no offerings accepted. Puja is performed twice a day, once in the morning and then in the evening. The temple and surroundings are almost clinically clean. Photography inside or near about the temple is strictly prohibited. There are sufficient staff to caution the visitors about it. Surroundings are beautiful. Area is fenced off from the backwaters. One can see sail boats sailing lazily on the backwaters. One must not miss this place while on a visit to Mysuru.

Venugopala Swamy Temple. The Venugopala Swamy Temple located at Hosa Kannambadi, near Krishna Raja Sagara, is an example of Hoysala architecture in Karnataka, India. This temple was built in the 12th century AD around the same time as the Chennakesava Temple at Somanathapura, Mysore district.

This place is not generally on the tourist radar but it is a must visit place for getting some peace and tranquility. Surrounded by Cauvery river on three sides, one can enjoy the cool breeze on the area surrounding the temple which has been maintained very well by the Temple authority. Parking is ample and temple is surrounded by landscaped garden with sitouts. The temple itself has lots of Hindu deities including rishis, grahas, rishis, rivers, Vishnu Avatars but the names are written only in Kannada which maybe little difficult for those not knowing the language. In summary a nice serene place not to be missed when nearby to Mysuru.

Don’t get me wrong, the temple is gorgeous.. what is sad is that they seemed to have given the temple upkeep or crowd management to the army.
They make the visitors life hell. My parents both in their 70s were asked to remove their shoes so far from the temple and the whole place was so slippery, that we asked them to stay back..
Even when we got in, we found a bunch of people who were repeatedly coughing. We decided to keep distance and take a counterclockwise direction and they again started barking orders.
We just decided to walk out

Excellent place to visit. Somehow hidden or not known to a lot of people when we visit.
Built around the backwaters of the dam, which provides an excellent view.
Temple, gardens and everything as a whole was brilliant.
We planned it along with Brindavan gardens.
We spent the afternoon over here, and then the evening at Brindavan gardens.
Use your Google maps if your local auto driver doesn't know which way to go.

Venugopalaswamy temple situated on the backwaters of KRS dam. One can see the KRS dam waters from this temple. Temple is renovated and well maintained. It’s 8kms away from KRS dam.

Temple is closed temporarily. One can only see temple from far. Last few kilometers of road to reach temple is really horrible with lots of pebbles and potholes.
Nothing much apart from KRS back water view. It’s a shame that condition of road makes the view of back waters not worthy to visit.
Better to stay away until temple is reopened with roads fixed.

This temple was drowned in the caruvery backwaters. Now they have taken the almost everything from the water and has done the replica of the same on the banks. Most of the stones are from the same and few more are new ones. Even today they have not initiated the God inside the temple. They will be doing anytime. But it is already open for public and it is a very amazing place. You can feel you have come to the temple. It is so relaxing sitting on the banks of the backwaters. Very easy to reach if you visit KRS. Should be around 6kms from KRS dam.

The Re-located Venugopala Swamy / Gopalakrishna Temple at the backwaters of KRS Dam near Hosa Kannambadi Village - is a very serene place at an excellent location.
The temple itself is yet to be finished; its not yet consecrated, probably waiting for some politician to do the honours.
Nevertheless, it is a brilliant and commendable effort by Khoday's Foundation to embark upon this tedious and remarkable project - to shift the submerged temple from the KRS bed to the banks. .
Built in the Chalukyan Style, by the Hoysalas(?) in the 12th century, it remained in the waters for the past 74 years after the KRS dam was constructed in 1930. The approach roads are nothing worth a mention, but it is worth the effort. Few shops have already come up selling all and sundry snacks, I wish they ban smoking at this place as it is a Temple and not a tourist spot!!
Though not as perfect as the original (similar to temples at Somanathpur, Belur, Halebeedu, etc), it is a noteworthy monument; it is sad to see that newly made but cracked figurines are stuck in the crevices with metal-paste and what not; that said, elsewhere new replica stones seamlessly merge with the old stones.
It appears that the enormity of the effort started weighing on the benefactors and fine supervision is lacking.
The temple must be sanctified immediately and restored fully before it begins to age!!
