A recently renovated palace converted as Art Gallery. This place is a must visit for all art lovers and collectors. The paintings of Raja Ravi Verma are at display here along with many paintings of the times of the Mysuru rulers. ‘Lady with the lamp’ painting is also one of the famous art collections at display here. So many artifacts ,paintings ,period furniture are displayed.

This place is a palace which is now converted into an art museum. They do have a pretty good collection of art and artefacts including paintings by raja Ravi Verma. Sadly, the maintenance is very poor and the building has a shabby look. Entry is Rs.60/- per head and, for some strange reason, you need to remove your footwear before entering

Dont be put off by the ill maintenance of the place. This place boasts of some real treasures and a place that should not be missed. Show pieces include Raja Ravi Varma originals and a Rembrandt self portrait!! You get a glimpse of the royal pleasures and treasures.

This place is a treasure trove of art. Some reviews said that it is not very well preserved but we found it just fine. Its not disabled friendly, but am sure that is being addressed.
The Raja Ravi Varma and Roerich art leaves one dumbstruck. Absolutely dumbstruck. But if you think that's incredible, wait till you make your way to the top floor, where hardly anyone goes.
That floor has games. We do not identify these "children's" games. One has the Chakravyuh in one half of the game baord and some other designs in the other half. I asked all the staff if they knew how to play these games, but they all declined.
If you are a history enthusiast, do visit this floor and once you have made some sense of what these games are and how they were possibly played, please enlighten us.

A lot of history depicted in beautiful paintings. This place, despite its age and average environment does have a lot to show in terms of the rich history Mysore has to offer. The admission price is worth the tour. The museum is also child friendly.

The Jaganmohan Palace is a palace formerly used by the Wodeyars Dynasty of Mysore, but now an art gallery and auditorium hall.
The art gallery has a large collection of paintings, most of which are portraits of the Wodeyar rulers, court life and paintings with Indian themes. There's also paintings and mini exhibitions of important local artists, but the jewel of the crown in the gallery is probably the "Glow of Hope" painting by the Indian painter, Sawlaram Haldenkar.
Expensive by Indian standards, but well worth it, especially as there's an audio guide which gives a lot of historical information about the Wodeyar and the paintings.

We went to this place to see painting called - " The Lady with the lamp". This painting is really amazing to see emotions of hope on the face. The gallery is good to experience the pre independence time and Mysore royal life style.
The Gallery is having good collection of painting from Raja Ravi Varma.
Things to be improved :
The Gallery is not well maintained and seems there is lack of funds.

Wonderful collection of Raja Ravi Verma paintings... unhurried ambience along with firm but gentle staff. Have visited the art gallery several times but am still spell bound by some of the paintings. Some recent painters are also represented..

If looking at a completely random collection of objects with no context, whilst a derelict building struggles not to collapse around you is your thing, look no further! Whilst this building is full of history, and kind of spectacular in its molding decrepitude, non of it is in any way explained or signposted. This is in keeping with the exhibition itself though, which at first glanced might be mistaken for a well to do attic clearance. The paintings and objects are incredible poorly maintained, some hanging in direct sunlight, others thick with dust. Innumerable staff members sit around doing nothing. A duster costs 10 rupees in the nearby market.
Meanwhile objects stand in their cases free from anything but the most rudimentary descriptions such as “painting of woman”, “some swords”, and “revolver” (it wasn’t a revolver). Even approximate dates of creation are absent, nevermind any word about cultural or historical context.
Highlights include a rusty saxophone in the instruments section, and paintings by a man who thinks Polar Bears are large sheep.

Chimps of Mysore zoo
20 years back two chimps (male & female)aged about 3 years arrived at zoo on animal exchange from Sweden for breeding purpose. Male named Mason and female named Mirella were living together for 20 add years, but never bred. Even both are healthy never they mated. After arrival of Nikoshi from Singapore zoo, Mirella is separated from her long time partner Msson and now paired with Nikoshi. Initially,
