- mukul dNavi Mumbai, India10 contributionsBlend of Richness and EleganceA magnificent piece of architecture with lot of history. A must see in Mysore. Hire a guide if possible for detailed information. This place can easily take 2-2.5 hours along with a stroll around palace. The place is beautiful in the evening when lit in full lights - starting from 7 pm in the evening.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 November 2023
- eliza248Great Missenden, United Kingdom103 contributionsInteresting historyInteresting palace. Get a guide to show you around and explain everything. Great decor and historic paintings and artefacts. Good for photos and very busy. Didn't bother with the light show as you could walk by at night and see it lit up anyway.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 December 2023
- nehab1016Sydney, Australia92 contributionsGrand palace visitBig beautiful palace. Can easily spend 3 hours here. We went with 2 infants under two. Below were our challenges: standing in queue for tickets (although) queue cleared quickly Also the light show was not in our language still worth viewing. Please plan your visit if you want to see the light show in your language and on Sunday only the entire palace illuminates. Pictures are allowed Shoes are not allowed Auto easily available outside 5 entrances to the palace, not all are for general public Activities outside the palace, take a stroll around the palace lots of small eateries. Horse ridesVisited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 December 2023
- Tata SShanghai, China2 contributionsMagical PalaceAt the Mysore Palace, I was treated to an experience that was truly magical! I was astounded by the beautiful and detailed architecture, as well as the vivid colours. Discovering the past and the culture that had been preserved within its walls was a genuinely captivating experience. My appreciation for the experience was heightened as a result of the knowledgeable guides' contributions, which brought depth to the tour. The magnificence of the palace, especially when lit up at night, was a sight to behold for anyone who happened to be there. Anyone interested in getting a look into the rich legacy of India should make it a point to visit this site.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 5 January 2024

The marble architecture and decorations are beautiful. Each room is better than the next. Allow plenty of time to enjoy the experienceVisited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 January 2024

- Gothoskar156 contributionsGrand palace, must visit in MysoreWell maintained palace, one has to keep footwear outside. Lots of ancient temples to see. Sound and light show in evening and the entire palace is lit up from 7-8pm. Not to be missed.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 February 2024
- SomersetspringTaunton, United Kingdom89 contributionsBeautifully designed palaceMysore Palace is a great place to visit whether you are staying in the city or visiting from outside. The quality of the craftsmanship in both the construction and the artefacts is admirable. I enjoyed walking around the Palace and the grounds. I don't really understand why the ticket office claims not to have change given the amount they take in. Anyway, I think it was worth the 200R entrance fee for foreigners. The temples are amazing too. Remember to remove footwear before entering and respect the 'no photography' rules. @jerrymilton2024Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 15 March 2024

There are some famous tourist spots that are simply worth going to regardless of the crowds such as the Taj Mahal, Niagara Falls (Canadian side), the White House etc. Mysore Palace is, indeed, one of those places. Exquisite architecture, beautiful paintings, lavish grounds. Some people complain about the crowds but Indians are so gloriously dressed as well as gracious they add to the spectacle. (We wound up taking photos of each other as well as the Palace.)

Beautiful place to visit. It is lighted on Sunday evenings. Sometimes during holidays also it is lighted from 7-8pm. There is buggy ride for 50 bucks around the palace. You can shop outside the palace for toys, keychains and other souvenirs, you need to bargain though. Inside the premises, you have the authentic Cauvery handicraft shops where you can buy Sandal wood and silk items.

if you are around the area, the Mysore palace is a must to visit. The palace is breathtakingly amazing beyond words could describe. It is a mix of the British and Indian grandeur crafted delicately through each and every nook and corner you could see..
Tips:
Visit during weekdays for more enjoyable visit and less crowd.
You can hire a tour guide with English speaking language to show you around
Weather was pleasant around 24 degree Celcius in June.
You may like to stay at Lalitha Mahal Palace hotel ( previously was the Summer Palace) for more touch of the royalty, or Radisson Blu of you prefer to stay at the City central next to mall, so it will be easier to get food if you travel with children.

We visited the Mysore Palace couple of days after Diwali and last day of the festival.
It is a huge and beautiful palace spread across 75 acres with beautiful gardens and architecture to view. Entry ticket is Rs. 100 per head and a tour inside the palace is a must if you want to enjoy the tour. My advise will be to start the tour around 4 to 4:30 pm and then sit in the garden till it becomes dark to see the illuminations. Since we visited just after Diwali, we also saw the Diwali lights at night which is a sight to behold. Weekends are very busy and parking can be an issue, so plan accordingly. Also check the timings for illuminations and sound and light show before visiting. Sound and light show does not take place on holidays.
I have attached few photos taken between 5 pm to 7:30 pm to show the effect of the illuminations.

Well maintained and one of the important places to visit in Mysore.
Palace is quite massive so there are quite a lot of things to see once inside.
There is a also a Light and sound show in the evening. There are specific days in the evening when the show is in English as opposed to other days in native language.
It is a good idea to visit the palace in the afternoon so you can be done with both the palace and subsequently light & sound show in the outside garden.
We had to keep our shoes in the show rack before going inside.
They don't allow you a lot of time while taking photographs so you have to be quick.

We reached sharp at opening time and there was already a queue for tickets. Once the gates were opened, the tickets purchasing process was very fast.
We hired a guide. In one hour, the guide showed us the key highlights and helped in setting the context with his explanations. The burma teak doors, the rosewood doors with ivory inlay stand out in my memory. And of course, the golden throne. Overall though, perhaps I had very high expectations and compared to other palaces like the Umaid Bhavan Palace of Jodhpur, it felt a bit underwhelming. To be fair though, it could be because we visited during Dasara time and maybe missed out on several experiences because of the rush and lack of time on our hands. For example, we found out later that there are rides available to cover the entire palace grounds. But we couldn’t find any such information at the entry gate. Also, we were told that the residential museum was closed, so we missed on that too.
If possible, do plan a visit sometime in the night around 7 pm. The view of the illuminated palace is truly amazing and not to be missed.

Mysore has always been my favourite historical place. Teeming with rich cultural heritage it welcomes visitors with open arms. You are engulfed in a royal aura the moment you land there. Only 3 hrs drive from Bangalore. The visual delights include Mysore palace, vrindavan garden, Chamunda devi temple, mysore zoo , the philomena church and so many things. The illuminated Mysore palace is a treat to watch in the evening. They have light and sound show through which the royal saga is depicted. The story of rajas and Maharaja feel so real. Chamunda devi temple you can visit early morning. You can take an auto. Vrindavan gardens will be 1 hr drive. You have musical fountains and a leisurely boat ride. 2nights 3 days will be perfect for your sojourn in Mysore.

Revisited the Mysore palace after many years. Grand building against a very blue Mysuru sky. Built by the Wadyar royal family, it has many relics of the grand wealth of the state and its rajas. The paintings on the walls display The might of the defence forces of the Raja, including elephants and horses, palkis and chariots.
