- MS1900Bracknell, United Kingdom286 contributionsGreta sightWe visited the Temple this week and it was a great experience. The life size statue of Hanuman and the little temple are obviously great and worth the experience. We walked all the way to the doorway office but we’re told it wasn’t working and due maintainence which was a great disappointment - their website didn’t state anything of the sort on the day and really unprofessional of the officials to not update the status of the ripe way there to save everyone time and effort. We ended up taking our own car there and it’s a 30mins drive from main Shimla, thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommend the site.Visited December 2022Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 December 2022

- macmill240 contributionsTemple is ok best bit is the cable car rideFor the best views of shimla take the sky rope/cable car to the temple as the views of shimla are stunning. The views from the top are restricted because of the trees. The temple itself is quite small but interesting the large monkey statue Is impressive, watch out for the monkeys up here thought they can get quite aggressive . worth a visit for the views though.Visited March 2023Written 4 March 2023
- Jayakar BHATMangalore, India542 contributionsA Visit to Jakhi TempleAs a part of Nirmala Travels Mangalore in Shimla Tour we a group of 40 persons reached Shimla, at three PM. Since we all were tired of journey from a long distance by bus, our manager said we can take rest today. But we had a idea to travel by toy train. But timings are not suited to us. Hence We decided to visit Jakhu Temple. From Our Hotel Temple is about 3 kilo meters far. We all reached the spot, then we came to know that either we opt for cable car or motor car. This cable car service is provided by Private carrier. Timings are upto 6 PM in the evenings only. As we reached the spot, lot of motor car operators are offering one way for Rs. 50.00. Since its a steep hill we thought of opting for cable ca for enjoying the view. They charged us Rs. 250.00 per head for one way, which is quite expensive, but still we opted it. Temple is serene, but monkeys troubled us a lot. My Spectacles was snatched away by one of the monkeys. There is a huge Statue of Lord Hanuman. We sat there for a hour and came down by Maruti Omni just for Rs. 50.00Visited September 2022Written 6 April 2023
- DandydeesUnited Kingdom81 contributionsWorth a visitThe temple itself we didn’t go into but we walked up to the summit and enjoyed the view and the huge statue. Do not wear glasses, the monkeys will steal them. A young lad had his nicked and got a face scratch in the process. Quite a steep walk but covered and you can go at your own pace.Visited May 2023Written 6 May 2023
- dianedinkyDunfermline, United Kingdom734 contributionsNot much to pass the time thereYou can see the monkey statue on the hill from all over Shimla so certainly worth a visit to go up there. The temple is in a beautiful setting and you can go inside and get a blessing but there is not much else to see or do between cable cars other than sit and contemplate or take a very short walk around. There is a small stall up there but nothing to really buy. The statue is, of course, for the monkey god but I only saw one actual monkey here, it is not running wild with them like the town itself. So if you want to get away from the monkeys...go to the monkey temple!Visited November 2022Written 7 June 2023

This is the highest point in shimla and the statue of lord hanumanji is visible from almost any part of the city. Beware of monkeys here and take care of your bags. Very lovely place and the best part is it also has a ropeway. We walked from the Ridge near the mall and up to the statue. You can either take stairs or walk beside them on good paved shang out to look at the giant.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 July 2023

We were driven by a driver, it's not easy to get to the temple otherwise on public transport. Visit during the auspicious days, so quite busy mid October, but a nice atmosphere, lots of monkeys around so be careful of belongings and not having food. Lovely views. Good atmosphere

Rains have come a bit Early this year. As I walk into the Temple Premises the Clouds enter in and then fly away. It's a surreal experience if you are able come at a time like this. It could be hot on Summer Days though.
The monkeys are not harmless if not very harmful. One grabbed my leg but I did not hesitate or stop and it easily let go. Then my 4 year old tried to provoke a small sized monkey also and he grabbed his pants too but again I moved him away casually and he let go. The best thing I have is an umbrella in my hand which looks like a weapon and scares them away. So if you have a Steel Flask or walking stick...anything that looks like a small weapon to the monkeys you are gonna be fine as they get scared and run away.
Place is not too crowded and kudos for me again for planning a trip at a time the thick crowds are not there.
The place is beautiful and clean and the small gardens and grasses look beautiful.
The Hanuman Statue is awesome and this is a Great Holy place to sit and Pray to Lord Hanuman.

The trip to Jakhu temple was great. The journey by the ropeway was very much enjoyable since it was moving at a slow pace. The lush green trees and the view of Shimla town was breath taking. All the staff were courteous. The best part was that tickets were handed out by agents running after us. These are authorised agents and we are saved from serpentine queues as in Gulmarg, Kashmir.
The temple and the Hanuman statue are really worth seeing. But beware of the monkey menace. They even snatched spectacles worn by an old lady.

It is safe to wear glasses. Trek is not as difficult as people say. Cable car will charge an adult INR 300 one way.

Is it possible to visit in Dec and is it safe for children

Local people traditionally visit Jakhoo in winter. It is the highest point in Shimla hills so most likely to have snowfall. People who like to see or play in snow go there in Jan-Feb. The walk up is steep but should be easy. Monkeys is a permanent problem in and around the temple, has always been since i was a child but who can argue with faith.

as far as i know there is no rope way in jakhu and it can easily be reached by car

How we travel in rope way. ? How much distance cover by it and what is the cost.
Puneet B

you have to go behind the church on the ridge and take a level walk for about 15 min and then the rope way takes you to the top. iew is good from the ropeway though it is quite expensive especially if you are traveling with a whole family. A taxi may be cheaper. the cheapest is a state transport bus which runs between the ridge and Jakhoo. the most pleasant way of course if to trek. especially if there is a little snow but be careful of slipping in the road.
