For someone who wants to get a feel for what it must have been like to be one of the British Elite in the days of the Raj a visit to the Vice Regal Lodge is a must! The building is in the Scottish Baronial style and would not look out of place in Fair Scotia! Of note is it's... More

Once the former summer residence of President of India till it was handed over to Indian Institute of Advanced studies by Dr.Rajendra Pradesh. The historic simla conference in 1945 took place in this very place. Originally built as abuilt as a home for Lord Dufferin, Viceroy of India from 1884–1888 and was hence called the 'Viceregal Lodge'

It's a must visit place in Shimla. Just awesome and enthralling experience to have a photo in the garden with the big castle in the background. The whole building has Scottish look and style because of which it feels like you are in Europe!!. Never miss

Since my HP University days, The Viceregal Lodge is one of my favorite places in Shimla. It is not only a beautiful place but highly peaceful. The building is historic and the inside of the building speaks of history itself. Right from the Shimla Treaty to the furniture and carpets which are from Burma and Sri Lanka, this is an... More

Visit to the IIAS has been on my agenda for a very long time. Its majestic British colonial building harks back to the Victorian times and though it looks a little unkempt, and aged, and is somewhat hard to access through steep winding roads, this beautiful Tudor nestled in the Shimla hills is inspiring on so many counts. Its majestic... More

Our driver said he was taking us the the Institute of Advanced Studies. OK. Maybe it'll be interesting. When we got there it was the former Vice Regal Lodge. An amazing stone Scottish Barobial style mansion with a glorious Burmese teak interior. Fascinating history. Well worth a visit. We had a good guide who explained the history and some of... More

This place was house of Viceroys in India. Later used as President Summer house. It was then open for Indian Institute of Advanced Studies and is still in use. The tour is very limited to few of the rooms. But you do get the glimpse of the life of the most powerful Britishers in India. Build in 1888 this structure... More

A magnificent royal mansion, a must visit place in Shimla. Oozing with Royalty, elegance and history! Shilma was the summer capital of colonial India and the Viceroys used to stay at this palace. The tour inside was limited to few rooms, but the photographs displayed gave a good account of the Mansion and the history of the place as well... More
