Adham Khan's Tomb
Dec 2020
Adham Khan's Tomb is the 16th-century tomb of Adham Khan, a general of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. He was the younger son of Maham Anga, Akbar's wet nurse thus also his foster brother. However, when Adham Khan murdered Akbar’s favourite general Ataga Khan in May 1561, Akbar immediately ordered his execution by defenestration from the ramparts of the Agra Fort.

The tomb was built in 1562, and lies to the north of the Qutub Minar, Mehrauli, Delhi, immediately before one reaches the town of Mehrauli, it is now a protected monument by Archaeological Survey of India- but is in a very poor state of maintenance. The tomb is opposite Mehrauli bus terminus and many passengers use it as a place to wait.

A 16th century tomb of Mughal General
Nov 2018 • Friends
The tomb of Adham Khan was built by Akbar in the 16th century. Interesting aspect of the tomb is that, though it was built by the Mughal emperor, it was built in the style of Lodi architecture. It is located near to the bus stop of Mehrauli. The tomb is not maintained very well but has basic cleanliness. This place is also locally called as Bhool bhulaiya. But there is no labyrinth or maze kind of path in the present structure. There is no entry ticket to visit the place.

Tomb of Adham Khan
Mar 2018 • Solo
This tomb was build in the memory of Adham Khan who was a general in his army. But the irony is he was killed too by the same person. The architecture is impressive but with more care and maintenance it could have been better. It’s part of the Mehrauli Archeological Park.

Octagonal tomb
Sep 2017 • Family
Adham Khan's Tomb is located in Mehrauli, Delhi near bus stop which is the 16th-century tomb of Adham Khan, a general of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Nearly 450 Years Old Bhool Bhulaiya of Delhi. A domed octagonal chamber lies north of the Qutub Complex. It comes in the way from Qutub minar to Humayun's Tomb. The tomb not maintained. It is just left out like a public place.

The very center of Mehrauli
Mar 2017 • Solo
Quite interesting Mughal tomb, in something unusual for the Mughal period in the history of Delhi as it is constructed rather in the Afghan style. Quite well-preserved structure. It is an octahedron with three arched openings in each of the "edges", decorated with a dome and small towers at the corners. Inside the sarcophagus was not preserved, because the British liked to use ancient tomb to fit their needs. First this has been a residential home, then the dining room, and even post-office. This is Mehrauli, archaeological park and at the same time the residential quarter of New Delhi. Moreover, it is the very center of the quarter. There are usually a lot of taxi drivers and rickshaws here.

I wish I had more time to visit

We only passed by the Tomb of Adham Khan on the way from Qutub Minar to Humayun's Tomb. I wish I had more time to explore it, a quick glance at the octagonal tomb did not do the justice to this interesting architectural monument.

Oldest Mughal tomb in Delhi with interesting story
Jan 2016 • Friends
This is the oldest Mughal tomb that still stands in Delhi. Humayun's Tomb, though begun earlier, was still under construction when this was completed. Architecturally, it is the only Mughal tomb built in the style of the Sultanate i.e. in an octagonal shape. One possible reason for this is that the tomb was built for Adham Khan, who was executed by Akbar, and hence not viewed favorably by the king at the time of his death. However, he spared no expense in building a large and lavish tomb for his foster brother!

It has been restored by the ASI, after having been used as the residence of a British family and a resting place for weary travelers.

simple tomb, bit smelly
Nov 2015 • Couples
This tomb is small and relatively unadorned.
Currently the interior is filled with scaffolding.
Maybe it will be cleaned up and restored.
I'd not go out the way to see it
