What’s up with the lack of lifts or elevators to move from one platform to another. Some places there are escalators, others not. Signs would help. Lots of beggars, homeless and those annoying taxi touts. Not a good first impression of Delhi.

Arrived here after traveling around the regions north of Delhi like Punjab and Uttarakhand. This is certainly one of the better stations in India. The place is quite clean by local standards and the cleaners do their job with electric cleaning machines which no doubt contributes to that. The station has ticket offices for reserved and unreserved trains, is pretty easy to navigate, has facilities for upper class passengers and has pretty good eating facilities.

My train, the 'Kalka Mail' was 90 minutes late departing at 2300 hours on a Saturday night so my impression of Old Delhi (Delhi Junction) railway station was somewhat affected by this.
It was fairly chilly waiting, as I chose not to go to the premium passenger (Rs. 10 per hour, peanuts) lounge as it was crowded and had only metal seating.
I was not as impressed by the range of takeaway food here as I had been at Howrah or Sealdah.
Toilets were also not well signed, but the number of passenger and freight trains Old Delhi handles daily is impressive.

The station is large but the approach roads are always crowded with all types of traffic. So give yourself sufficient time to reach.

This was after a long time that I used the Old Delhi railway station. I traveled from Saharanpur by train to the Old Delhi station and was looking forward to seeing the station and expected it to be revamped as I understand that its counterpart in New Delhi has been. There was no escalator from the platform to the over bridge. However there was an escalator going down to platform no. 1. I thought I saw a lift too. The platform no. 1 was clean but not of international standard. I saw a signage for McDonland’s in the platform. There is parking lot for three wheelers and four wheelers outside but thankfully not many touts. The area in front of the station looked as disorderly as ever.

This station is also known as old Delhi railway station, it is a big railway station located near chandni chowk just adjacent to chandni chowk metro station. It has multiple platforms. Thousands of people travel from this station daily. It has a MacDonald in its premises, so if ever train gets late so you can have a good meal there. Transport vehicles for senior citizens is also provided here. In all its amongst the better railway stations of India.

Dehli train station is quite large but the electronic boards stating your train and platform number; make it pretty easy to navigate.
It is very busy and crowded with no where to sit or rest whilst waiting. Despite this, give yourself ample time to navigate around and find your platform as some are a 10-15minute walk away.
Trains in India are known to be late but my experience at Dehli is that they are fairly well timed and only leave a few minutes late, if at all. Be early!
There are many kiosks in the station where you can buy drinks, tea and snacks.
Tips:
- If you miss your train or need help, go upstairs to the tourism room where they can assist you to rebook onto another train and many of them have reasonable spoken English.
- As in many public places in India, hygiene is not top of the list. Cary tissue, wet wipes and hand sanitizer if you can as there is very often no hand wash or toilet tissue 🚽

Known by the station code DLI, popularly reffered to as Delhi Junction, is the oldest railway station of the city. Although it's located in Delhi, yet it's condition is very much miserable. It's dirty and smelly. The station management is very poor. The station really needs a renovation work as soon as possible. The main building of the station was built by the britishers and it's mostly red. the nearest metro station is Chandni Chowk metro station. Kashmere gate is also located near the station.
