- Daniel el-bare2 contributionsAmazingvery beautiful and peaceful place. You can spend your entire day here if you are looking for peace. Phone and camera are not allowed in the temple. There is a garden adjacent to the temple, where you can spend a quality time with family and friends and click pictures.Visited December 2022Written 20 December 2022
- Monika SHyderabad, India12 contributionsMesmerizing, spiritual, thoughtful, and fun - all in one!I visited the temple along with my parents, not realizing beforehand the magnanimity of the temple space and time it would take to experience everything in offering. Every step in the temple that we took passed through a really well-organized process, beginning from parking to security check to entry and then the tours. We began by paying our tributes at the temple, that besides being a spiritual abode was just out of the world in its carvings and beautifully laid out statues. We then proceeded to the tours that worked like a perfect assembly line, moving people from one room to the other, taking you through the stories, learnings, and history of both Swaminarayan and India. The boat ride was just exceptional not to say that the robotic show and the movie were any less. And the final piece - the light and sound show - was a marvelous combination of arts and technology, coordinated and choreographed superbly. A day outing cannot go without the mention of food facilities. The food court is decent, with availability of strictly vegetarian food and beverages. There is a big courtyard space made available to enjoy food along with nice view of the temple. At all places in the temple space, there are carts selling tea/coffee and snacks. The price of the food is not all expensive. Make sure to leave your bags, mobile phones, cameras, and any electronic items outside in your vehicle or deposit them in the cloak room. The toilet facilities are not as clean but manageable. Wear comfortable shows for all the walking you need to do (you remove them only while stepping into the temple). Try to take a center seat for the light and sound show (right in front of the Swaminarayan statue) at least 45 minutes before the show start time. Overall, every moment that we spent at the temple was enriching spiritually and the huge space filled with lush greenery, beautiful architecture, very well organized activities, and polite and supportive staff made it an exceptional day.Visited December 2022Written 29 December 2022

- Christina CLondon, United Kingdom18 contributionsThe most beautiful temple in DelhiMy visit to the temple was amazing. The place is huge. Lots of hard work has gone into making the temple. It was a memorable visit. Sad that I could not do photography inside the complex, but then it is a religious place so that's understandable. A must visit for anyone traveling to Delhi.Visited December 2022Written 8 February 2023
- Alka Chudasama27 contributionsReally impressive! This place is massive and took nearly two to three hours to tour around. The way the guided tours of the place itself was really well thought out. We enjoyed the boat ride offering a history of India and its contribution to the world!Visited February 2023Travelled with familyWritten 8 March 2023
- SEAB24Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom1,958 contributionsStunningAmazing temple built on a huge scale. Beautiful carvings and stunning architecture. Maintained by volunteers and free to get in. Security is very tight and you have to leave bags, cameras and mobiles at lockers. The check in of bags was slow but the pick up of bags was very efficient. Definitely worth a visit. We had only limited time so only really touched the surface of this fantastic attraction.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 March 2023
- krishna292Hyderabad District, India1,136 contributionsA Must Visit Place in Delhi For a Lifetime ExperienceWe visited Akshardham when our son had come from US. From Ghaziabad, we hired a cab and reached this great and imposing temple at about 2 PM as we also wanted to stay there till the Laser show timings. There is too much security around Akshardham. After parking the car, we were directed to proceed to reception. There we had to keep our mobile phones for which, a receipt was given. Larger bags are also to be deposited here. As we had not taken lunch before leaving home, we went to the canteen, which was crowded. Lot of variety is available here, both north Indian and south Indian but the food is available only through self service. Then we went inside and as guided, visited several halls where audio-visual illustrations are done about the saint Swaminarayan, who left his family, denounced the worldly pleasures and devoted his life for the service of mankind. There are also some pavilions where the visitors are taken around and life of many Hindu Gods, Such as Rama, Krishna and Shiva are beautifully depicted through attractive tableaus. Visit to all these Halls took about 3 hours and then we again went to canteen to take tea and pass some time. Though many visitors were seen to be leaving the temple premises but we also found new visitors entering the premises and sitting in the central arena. we also went to the central open air theater where a Laser or water Show was to commence after sunset. We took good positions and had to wait about one hour when the show began. To our surprise we found that the crowd started swelled each minute as if they were waiting for this show and hundreds of students started thronging the place. In fact there were much more numbers to watch this display rather than the people visiting the main temple in the afternoon. This display was really marvelous and worth the money that we had spent for the tickets. In fact there are separate tickets for this show. A mythological and popular story was very beautifully narrated through colored laser lights and water fountains. The display was really mesmerizing. It was a great experience for us and I strongly recommend the visit to Akshardham at least for this evening water-cum-laser show. The sad part is that one cannot take the photos as cameras and mobiles are not allowed.Visited October 2022Written 13 March 2023

The building and the ocean together make for one of the most impressive aspects of that location. You should make it a point to see it at least once in your lifetime, but the concept behind the water display is not going to be to everyone's liking. There is a sense of peace here. Mobile phones, cameras, and other electronic devices are not permitted.

We visited here one evening to see the water and light show. It does not really feel like a religious place but more of a tourist attraction. It is free entry although there is a small fee for the water and light show. A reasonable evening out and you can the the metro directly from Connaugh place to the temple.

This is an amazing experience - thoroughly immersive - it is an experiential process - read up on what you can and cannot take before visiting. Getting there is easy on the Metro - the stop is called Akshadham.
Sundays are very busy - be prepared for a process of entry that may take between half to one hour through security, baggage drop, security again and then lining up for water and light show tickets. If possible this is a must. There can be two shows a night - one at about 7.30 and another at 8.15pm. That in itself is a process of queuing and waiting but worth it. The reverse process seems to be quick to recover baggage but you need to remember which line you were in dropping off because it must be the same line and person to collect.
Entry to the precinct is free - just time - but the Exhibition and Shows (optional) are charge.
There is an extensive cafeteria inside - another process of ticket purchase on one area and moving to various counters for different items.

It is a stunning and massive newer temple and complex that has been caringly designed in the old traditions. It is located a bit outside the main part of the city. We came here on a tour and found it worthwhile; however, I wouldn’t rate it as a must see if you only have limited time.

Commercial not cultural. Still not fully decided on this place - severe security (you’re literally not allowed to bring anything in) but my experience with getting through queues etc was not negative.
The temple was impressive in terms of design and execution - intricate and detailed. That’s sort of where compliments end. It struck me as a money making location rather than a place of active prayer and had further gimmicks like a light show and boat ride.
Lots of the design looked machine made and man finished which detracts from the appeal as there are other local, older handmade sites to visit.
Probably good if you have kids, otherwise struck me as an excessive, money making machine under the guise of culture. Like Disneyland!

This is an example of what a temple shouldn't look like. This is a gross display of materialism and wealth of a small, politically connected, and influential minority.

This temple is situated on the other side of the Yumana river and does take some time, effort to get to. However, it is definietly worth a visit.
The temple was a labour of love. It took 20,000 volunteers - 20 years to build.
The level of intricate detail and skill on the white stone - inside the main temple - are equally beautiful and incredible.
While it is relatively new, people will be visiting, admiring and talking about this temple for centuries to come.
Your entry ticket gives you access to an insoor section which includes a mechanical boat ride. It encapsulates 10,000 years of Indian history into 10 minutes. Very educational and uplifting.
Bear in mind, there’s a high level of security. You cannot take your mobile inside, but you can leave it safely with them, however, need to fill out some paperwork at entry point.
My advice is, don’t bring your phone or secure it in your vehicle prior.
You will need around 2-3 hours to visit this site.

We saw a lot of temples and forts etc. here and other cities - this was the most beautiful in Delhi and probably anywhere we visited.
No photos inside, which wouldn’t do it justice anyway. Well worth the visit

How we can travel from red fort to akshardham temple?
satish7113
New Delhi, India30 contributions
from chandni chowk metro station(near red fort), take the yellow line metro to Rajiv Chowk metro station. From there, change metro and go to Blue line metro towards Nodia Electronic city. Akshardham station is on the way. From Akshardham metro station, you can either walk to the temple(around 500 metres walk), or you can take auto/rickshaw that costs around 10 rupees per person in sharing, and 30 rupees if you book the auto.
