Jahaz Mahal (in Urdu language ‘Jahaz’ means "Ship" and ‘Mahal’ means "Palace", the "Ship Palace"), is located next to Hauz-i-Shamsi in Mehrauli, Delhi on its northeastern corner. It was so named, since its reflection (illusion) in the surrounding reservoir looked like a ship floating on a lake. It is inferred to have been built during the Lodi dynasty period (1452–1526) as a pleasure resort, Sarai or an inn.
The monument is built in a robust style typical of the pre-Mughal period- of granite rubble. It is probably because of this it has with stood the ravages of time pretty well. Presently it is very poorly maintained- though i saw an ASI board there. The magnificently named Hauz-i-Shamshi ("Lake of Sunlight") is a huge cess pool with only sewage and hyacinth growing in it. The magnificent monument screams silently seeking attention and preservation!

Jahaz Mahal is located next to Hauz-i-Shamsi reservoir in Mehrauli. It was so named, since its reflection in the surrounding reservoir looked like a ship floating on a lake. It is believed to have been built during the Lodi dynasty period (1452–1526) as a pleasure resort, Sarai or an inn. The palace has carved square chhatris (six of them with different numbers of pillars – six, eight and twelve) in the corners and the centre, ornamented with beautiful squinches in different chambers and walls. The domed pavilion over the central gate is decorated with blue tiles. A small mosque is also located within the palace, as discerned from a mihrab in a niche on the west wall.

We accidentally visited the Jahaz Mahal while it was covered in thousands of flowers and garlands for a Hindi holiday.
It was very pretty, very colourful.
Unfortunately, due to a ceremony taking place in the grounds, we could only have a very limited look from the outside.
Orth a visit though. Take pictures!

Jahaz mahal in mehruali is historical monument and has a very attractive name. It got a name because of its reflection in adjacent pond or lake as a ship...

This is another old monument which stands neglected. A fourteen century structure is called Jahan Mahal because its reflection in the adjacent pond made it look like a Ship. It is time that authorities take up this monument for renovation and make it a real attraction for tourists.

Jahaz mahal is located on the banks of Shamsi talab. It's impression in the pond used to resemble a ship, hence the name. The monument was constructed around 14th century as a rest house to the travellers. The main highlight of the monument in the present days is that it is the central venue of Phool Walon ki Sair. When we visited Jahaz mahal, the entire place is decked up in flowers and looked very beautiful.

It is a part of the Mehrauli Archeological Park, poorly maintained, is in tatters. It’s an interesting piece of architecture but lack of maintenance has ruined it.

This is one of the worst place I visit in my life. The palace is not maintained by any authority. Very filthy and dirty place. All the dirty water falling in the pond. Not a worth place to visit even once. Local people should be aware of Swatch Bharat plan to clean the place where they live and surrounding. People are playing gamble surrounding the place. Not safe for children and family.

Have read somewhere the name comes from the reflection of this architecture on the shamshi lake which is behind it just looks like a ship/ jahaz. Well it has ruined a lot and it not properly maintained. Jahaz mahal is one of the mughal era monument and is beautiful too.
