- podrozniczka60New Jersey14,816 contributionsCrowded, interesting, not many tourist. The place is an example of beautiful Georgian style architecture. Around the Central Park semicircular buildings form a busy shopping and dining hub, The sections are marked with the letters of alphabet. Many interesting stores and restaurants. We ate at Diggin. Be prepared to assume defensive and unfriendly body language to survive the stroll. Otherwise constant harassment and aggressive beggars completely change the experience.Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 January 2023
- Surya KatakamHyderabad, India1,935 contributionsOne of the Best Shopping area in DelhiLocated right in the heart of the New Delhi, Connaught place is a busting hive of activity. Before the bazaars, stalls and dining establishments sprouted around Connaught place, the area was all about Cinemas. In the 1920's it wasn't Bollywood and Hollywood shows that has the spotlight. It was built under British rule between 1929 and 1933. Robert Tor Russell designed this British Commercial center in collaboration with W H Nicholls. It is Circular and known as the largest commercial hub of its king in India. It was named after Prince Arthur, 1st Duke of Connaught, third son of Queen Victoria and uncle of King George VI of England, who visited India in 1921. The area in and around Connaught place is a shopper's Paradise. The Market is divided into two circles. Inner circle and outer circle. The inner circle comprises of Blocks A to F. All Major brands outlets are available in Inner Circle. The outer Circle of Connaught place consist of Block G to P having all big Show rooms.Visited April 2022Written 28 January 2023
- Ash MaleBMelbourne, Australia36 contributionsMr ShoesI had a full split in both the rubber soles of my sandals as I walked through Connaught Place. Initially I told the shoe repairer that approached me that I wasn't interested (the place is tout hell - you need to shut out everyting) but when he showed he'd spotted my broken soles and assured me he could fix them I asked his price. 220 rupees. I said OK so we swapped sandals and he got to it. He was great. He glued the split and then used a real heavy duty black twine to sew the rubber soles together. It looked like really good workmanship so I paid him 500 rupees. I think he said his name was Mr Shoes which in itself is brilliant. He's a young guy, from Rahasthan, pushy but respectful. If you're in Connaught Place and need shoe work Mr Shoes is your man. See pic. But be careful - there's also some real scam shoe cleaners at Connaugt Place. The day after Mr Shoes I got done by the 'poo on the shoe' scam. (one shoe cleaner points out you've got 'poo' on your shoe and another bloke suddenly appears and suggests you get them cleaned). I knew I'd been done but because of the language barrier I couldn't tell them them off. I insisted on agreeing on a price of 100 rupees, he half agreed and I watched him closely to make sure he did a good job. When he was done he said it was 250 rupees. His mate suddenly re-appeared and said Indian prices sir. I told both of them flat out we agreed on 100 rupees and that's all he's getting. I then gave him the cash and walked off.Visited February 2023Travelled soloWritten 20 February 2023

Go to new delhi connaught place if you want to risk having dog excrement thrown at you , that's what happened to me as part of a scam. I wrote to the police, no response. I really thought India would have improved since I was last there 20 years ago.

Visited here few time by Metro and Loved it but saw few TA Reviews of Foreigners not pleasing to the eyes. There has to be security arrangements to make sure no tourists has been harassed or Disturbed, If the capita city has such issues what people will experience somewhere else and it presents a wrong picture of India all together.
Even I saw people writing that Police is also with them which is not a good sign at all.
Hopefully police is not that corrupt and somebody will see these reviews and do something about it.

I never normally leave reviews on this, but after the experience here, I had no choice. My girlfriend and I ordered an Uber to one restaurant for food and drinks that was nothing but amazing. As we left the door to walk somewhere else within 5 seconds someone was waiting for us. Getting real close to my girlfriend whilst giving creepy compliments. He continued following us and tried to convince us to take the underground pass. I told him no and to leave us alone so he did, only for a younger boy kept asking us questions. He told us he was an English student and English are very nice. He also kept telling us to go down into the underground pass. We crossed the road then saw the man from earlier talk to the boy, only for another man waiting there for us. We walked into a bar to get away then ordered an Uber straight back to our hotel. I can’t stress enough to avoid this area, it really dampened our experience of Delhi

This place may be interesting from the outside, but just know it is filled with touts and scammers. Someone will harrass you every 2 minutes, please dont believe anyone that is nice to you. They will tell you they just want to help, that they will take you to their temple or to get cheap indian food but all of them are scammers. I was a victim of one and even though i said no a million times i ended up getting in the tuk tuk with the scammer. At the end of the night had to pay 2500 rupees to tuk driver and 1500 ruppees to scammer so they would let me go. Came to the same place the next morning to find they guy again and people were harrassing me non-stop. Please dont go here, and if you go, say a very strong no and push the guy away if you need. There are only two ways to leave connaught: one is to get rid of someone that wont stop harrassing you, and the other is in the tuk tuk with the scammer because will fell for it. DONT BELEIVE ANYONE NICE TO YOU. They will tell you they are retired teacher, student whatever dont believe them.

This is central New Delhi. There are shops, restaurants, beauty parlours and even a post office. There are hotels too. For tourists this is the ideal place to visit while in Delhi. The old shops have been replaced with new international top-brand shops.

Depending on your budget, the range is from the Imperial, Lalit, Hans, Marina & Palace heights. All more expensive than Pahar Gunj though.

Hello there, I am sorry for the delayed response. Yes, there are multiple joints for the MOMO. The good ones are available the Bercos restaurant, however, you should try it at the D'Pauls. The good momos at very reasonable price. Also, enjoy it along with their cold coffee, but it goes well with chilled coke, thubsup or pepsi

Yes there are plenty. There's one in K( Wine and Beer shop), F and N block each apart from a few others. These are govt run shops that are closed on so called "dry days" or government holidays. There's also a 24 Seven store near Regal cinema from where you can buy wine and beer. Then there are numerous restaurants and pubs where liquor is served.

It depends on what you want to buy... Traditional Indian wear- Chandni Chowk or Karol Bagh, Western- Karol Bagh, Connaught place or Rajouri Garden market, Cheap n very reasonable clothing- Sarojini Nagar mkt or janpath.... Rajouri is expensive, Karol Bagh has a lot of bargaining happening... same with janpath n Sarojini...Connaught place you can shop for expensive or high end clothes... Also there is a market called Palika Bazar in Connaught place which is the cheapest of all n you may find duplicate products for the originals there but in Palika n janpath n Sarojini, please beware of pick pockets... Happy Shopping....

Is connaught place an open shopping market at night or just glass fronted shops?
Ryu Ronciere
National Capital Territory of Delhi, India272 contributions
connaught place is basically divided into an inner circle and a outer circle.
in thr innet circle and the radials to outer circle near regal cinema u can find a while lot of vendors wiyh open market where in cheap n daily usage clothing can br found.
outer circle and radials have mostly showrooms with big brand names.
then there s a famous Janpath Market for clothing and accessories, which is exclusive open market for fashion stuff, at affordable prices, particularly popular among college students.
For more stuff at affordable rates and lots if variety including first copy to last copy of brands Palika Market can br visited, wherein stuff from electronic to clothing can be seen.
if a person is interested in some ethnic stuff nearby Janpath metro station a big market s there with local shops selling quality ethnic stuff and accessories.
For visiting emporiums of state culture departments Baba Kharak Singh Marg near CP should be a good choice.
