I will never forget this place. There is beauty in every corner, walking down the main bazaar made me fall in love with India and then walking back to my hotel I fell in love all over again. It is beautiful, bustling and bright. I recommend this and if you are a shy person like me, get used to saying “No!”

1. Paharganj is a part of old Delhi and a resident of old school businesses.
2. This place is not recommended for first-time visitors for the right reasons due to the complexity of the area.
3. You will find various tourist attractions connected to this place along with hotels and eateries.
4. It is a complex locality due to its vast population and street connectivities.
5. Great for experiencing old school Delhi.
6. This locality is easily accessible by public and private transport.

1) This place is the ghetto of India. It is NOT for foreigners who are not experienced traveling to Asia. It is dirty, cheap, and raw.

2) If you want nice and affordable spot in Delhi metro area, South Delhi is the place to be. Middle Class area with young and hip environment.

3) Only reason to live in Paharganj is to experience poverty, not even affordability. Since South Delhi is very affordable.

Good area to shop around. Ideal for fabrics, scarves, clothes, teas and household goods like tiffins. We got some great bargains and prices are all reasonable.

It is busy but not as crazy as old Delhi so we found it okay to navigate around.

This area is a good place to stay, if you're looking for budget accommodation and at the same time looking to be close to some good shopping and sightseeing locations. The place is also close to two metro stations, making it easier to commute to more distant areas.

Paharganj in new Delhi is a very very busy place as the New Delhi railway station is found there. you get foods everywhere near the railway station and there are many hotels in the neighbourhood. i went to drink fresh juice everyday in the main market near the railway station. it is a very big and busy tourist place. you can money changers and tourist shop along the main market. Every year when i go to Delhi i go for some shopping at paharganj.

The street Main Bazar (don't expect a "Main" at all) in the neighbourhood (=Ganj) of Paharganj (most travellers and guides mistakes and use both names for the famous 3km street in front of the NewDelhi train station) used to be the backpakers headquarters until the internet hotel booking era and AirBnB.
It was not a marvellous place but very dirty, where 99% of world backpakers used to "dissenbark" in India the first time, the first day. Or their last days to shopping and take their return europe planes.
I wonder always why the gov never took care of this street. Dirty, old, dusty, belly diseases, miserable cafés and dabhas...
After explanation: most landlords are muslims in this street, light came to my brain. As Old Delhi or Agra, any muslim place in India recives 0 rupi investment and 0 effort.
Is why Main Bazar is SO dirty and abandoned, and risky for health.
The 90s travellers tried to sleep as close as posible to the Connaugh place NewDelhi heart of the city. But the rooms where so few and expensive. 5 star hotels in Janpath ave were out of the backpakers budgets.
So they gathered in the horrible dirty rooms around NewDelhi train main station. Very convenient not to loose the train in a crazy traffic jam city (with cows and bicicles every were). And very cheap. In 2000 a single room without wc.

I’ve passed through this market as needed over the years and would like to shed some of my insight on the scene as I’ve experienced here and there since 2008 to now in 2019. I’ve always heard this is the market you can find items in their raw wholesale state! The rawest form of goods post production is of course chandni chowk sadar bazaar, but after that you go up in scale and price to Pahargunj and after that to Janpath, and after that to Dilli Haat or a fancy mall with AC then the international airport shop, and then finally you’ll find the same items in retail stores abroad! So if you follow my reasoning, a bargain shopper can locate a bargain friendly market here in the daytime! If you speak Hindi and are a foreigner you’re better off, otherwise rates go up from there!

If you are a lady, especially traveling alone, get in, get what you need, and get out in daylight hours! As the sun goes down, any good in this market leaves with it, as should you for your own safety! If you stand around looking lost, you will be taken advantage of, so keep moving or dive into a shop!

You can get customized items if you have time to place orders, I once customized stitched/embroidered patches, leather journals, and another time engraved silver bangles for wholesale quantities! Place your order, leave a reasonable deposit, set a pick up date (a week earlier than you actually need it), go on pick up date, let them tell you it’s not ready, give a serious face and express your disappointment, then come back and pick them up on the new date given! It’s actually really fun and will leave you feeling super accomplished upon success!
