Connaught Place, the heart of New Delhi, is one of the largest commercial, financial and business centers in the Capital. The sprawling horseshoe-shaped circular heritage market is a white dot in the green city, filled with shops, art & handloom emporiums, fashion boutiques, an underground market, cinemas, a range of vintage and new restaurants & bars lined along the inner and Outer Circle. In the midst of all the hustle, CP is great for chilled out evening strolls and people watching, introducing the beauty and rhythm of the city. The ambience gets more colorful as you stroll along Janpath and the Central Cottage Industries Emporium, considered among Delhi’s best shopping areas.
How to get there
  • Janpath • 5 min walk

The Western Court Building is a former colonial era building that was used to house visiting dignitaries, but is not used by members of parliament. Ordinarily, members of the public are not allowed to visit, but the guards let me have a quick wander around the grounds. The building is built in a very simple neoclassical building. The facade of the building including the neoclassical structures are pretty plain and devoid of decorations as far as I could tell. Fine to take a look if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t go out of the way to see it.

I recently stayed at western Court, was travelling from Pilani and had to stay at Delhi for one night. The accommodation was arranged by a relative. Couple of noticeable things about Western court, its a very old building with very minimum luxuries. Lets start with the positives
1. Room rent very less, 350 for non ac single.
2. Decent food.
3. Newspaper ( of ur choice and language) in the morning
4. Close to most of the historic buildings.
Negatives
1. Its not maintained well. The curtains were not put, the TV was not working. Had to call the cleaners to get the room cleaned , after checking in.
2. Canteen closes at 9:45 pm. No room service

The western court is one of the best and grand architectural monuments of New Delhi. It is also the PWD guest house and houses the MPs and there guest during there visit to new delhi. It has a sister building on the other side of the road and is called the eastern court which houses the BSNL office. Compared to the eastern court the western court is well maintained. ITDC hotel Ashok and hotel Shangri-la are its close neighbours. wonder why a monument of this stature don't find mention in most of the travel portal! I have stayed in the western court for 3 days on a visit to new delhi. facilities are basic but the architecture is wonderful. Editors should get there and have a look at the white monument specially at night.

The building's look from outside and gardens are nice. The rooms are terrible, terrible, terrible. No service at all. This is nothing like a western hotel, it is totally out of concept.Do not stay.

Yes all parliments, Mp's and immidiet family stays here but very dirty. All local people staying. No shower stall or bathtub. Has a toilet, sink and a shower pipe sticking out of the wall. When I walked in the bathroom floor was filled with water about 2-3cm soapy leftover water sitting there sometime.
No doors, but curtains(except the room door). Very high ceiling, large room, cold. There was a tiny, tiny heater in the room with no plug just 3 wires coming out of it. When the housekeeping guy came I asked him(actually showed him) to operate it, he kept randomly sticking the wires into the wall outlet, I told him to stop because he was going to get himself electricuted. I saw 2 mice, 3 times. I told the housekeeping guy, there is a "mouse", he smiled and went into the wardrode room which is separated with curtain, with a 1,5 meter metal stick and came out smiling and saying "gone" !!! :)
Bed sheets were stained.

There is a reception room with 2 guys. The only telephone is there. They don't speak english well. People come and leave unpacked, loose laundry on a chair in a pile to be washed I guess. Single room 350 rupees. Double room 700 rupees.
The signs outside said, you can order food and it will be cooked for you. There is no restaurant and we didn't even try to order food or anything.

The stay was a prepaid treat from a friend. I had to pack up late night and secretly sneak out the room to the hotel next door.Never went back.

The only postive thing is; they give you a newspaper everyday and you can take nice pictures in the garden. Chipmunks and green parrots freely flying, running around, nice flowers, you can take nice close up nature pictures. Free to walk into the court.

If you don't mind the mice and you have your own sheets and no plans to take a shower, you can stay. Looked fairly safe. But good location. 5 minutes walk to Cotton Emporium, Palika Bazaar, Connaught Palace.

The Western Court is historical . Shri Motilal Nehru and other freedom fighters stayed here . This accommodation is meant for Ministers, Member of Parliaments and their guests . With 78 rooms only , this is a much sought after 'power status' accommodation .

2 minutes walk from Connaught Place , Janpath metro station just outside the exit gate, and 10 - 20 minutes walk to major government offices and parliament ..... you cannot expect a better location

Try your luck

Stayed here for over a month. Requires networking to ensure the rooms are booked well in advance. Certainly gives a different experience in terms of the ambiance.

Good food and feels homely it’s a canteen system so do ensure to make a note. The cons I found was that the rooms aren’t well maintained and be prepared to ha e mice chew off clothes.

This is located within walking distance to Connaught Place and is cheap place to spend few nights. But you can only get a room on recommendation of some VIP (read ministers). The con is, rooms are not that well maintained, but then hey what else can we expect in ₹350/night.
