It's a beautiful temple and the views from the top are amazing, but be prepared to climb a lot of steps and we felt a little rushed during the visit. When we entered, we were offered a guide from the site. It was not easy to communicate in English with the guide, he was a lovely guy but we could barely undestand him.

We loved our visit and really enjoyed our guides guidance and wealth of knowledge, we're grateful for his sharing of his religion and the history of the temple. Was so interesting. Beautiful historic paintings and architecture within the temples, we would never have learnt so much without our guide. We'll worth the koha/donation. Best wishes to everyone we met today and thankyou again❤️

Visited the rock temple for some culture on our beach holiday. The tour guide was excellent and gave us a brilliant insight into the history of the temple. The view from the top is worth the steps up. Not super steep so most people can access

Beautiful temple to visit and one that is important to Buddhist faith. There are many stairs to climb to go up but you dont need to be super fit to make it.
The views from up top is worth it!
I got a guide who was lovely and friendly but shared very little information with me and kept repeating the same facts. He became unfriendly when I tipped him saying its too little. Would have been nice to have a knowledgable guide as I am sure there is a lot to learn and see here.

It's almost 16km away from Tangalle main city and only half an hour drive to the temple. you can park your vehicle next to the temple and need to climb around 500 steps to the top of the rock where you reach beautiful place you can see morning sunrise and evening sunset both.
The temple is more than 150 years old and still it maintaining with good condition. It you're a foreigner you can always hire a guide who will well explain every valuable points. If you are passing by Tangalle this place is must visit

When you arrive, can ignore all the touts / “tour guides” and just start walking up. You will eventually pass a guy in a booth where you need to pay 500 rupee per person.

If you have travelled a lot around around Buddhist Asia this temple isn’t really spectacular.

We were staying on the beach for a week and wanted a diversion, and it was worth the trip, from that perspective.

It is a fun walk up some steep stairs. There is an option section of large footholds carved into the wall that is interesting if you are in good shape.

The view is average but the trip was worth it as we had spent the week drinking beer and eating foot and wanted a little exercise.

There was a monk at the pavilion at the top who was very nice and showed us a secret area with a slightly better view. He answered a few questions and seemed semi legit so felt better about leaving a token donation there, as opposed to giving money to the annoying touts.

There is a run down squat toilet bathroom at the bottom. A tout stands there asking for money, claiming to be a restroom attendant, initially 200 per person. That is obviously a ridiculous scam price and he clearly was not an employee of the park. I just ignored him and didn’t pay. I think the 500 entry fee includes admission to a squat toilet.
