The visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage was planned well in advance of our trip. I was expecting to see elephants roaming freely within a reserve in their natural environment so I was a little shocked to see the reality of the situation. Make no mistake, this is a expensive commercial money generator and I just hope all proceeds are ploughed... More

I went to this supposedly elephant orphanage along the road between Colombo and Kandy, Sri Lanka. going inside with the package to go on a short elephant ride and bathing elephant cost $2000 LKR per person. After our ride, the trainer asked for tip. It just felt strange that a trainer would ask for tip? It just didn't felt right... More

We visited here as part of a tour and loved it. My wife was very emotional about the whole experience. As a lot of reviews state the elephants seem to be well looked after but some are chained. I asked our tour guide about this who assured me this was generally the just the large bulls who could be a... More

The title of 'orphanage' makes the place sound like abandoned elephants are looked after. Quite the opposite. The more I think about our visit here the more uncomfortable I am about it. We expected elephants to be freely walking around the big plain that is located here but every single elephant was chained to the ground in a hut when... More

The place is very good to families with kids My kids loved the place very much specially milk feeding and river bath But from my point of view it's over priced because You will see many elephants in Sri Lanka.

If you love elephants it is a place to visit. You get to see elephants bathing. After bath the parade is great. This huge beast passes through the streets and you get to touch them. Then at their feeding place you can feed them but have to pay for food basket. Then watch young elephants drinking milk, which was very... More

The elephant orphanage is a must see in Sri Lanka. We had the opportunity to feed the elephant and take close shots. Some of them are chained from 2 legs, which is quite cruel. Highly recommend the experience.we had lunch at a restaurant next to the river and we could see them closely when they arrived for bathing.

Go here if you want to watch elephants frolic in water and be totally carefree .It's one of my best experiences in life and something I will cherish forever .They take good care of the animals and there are different times of the day you can go watch baby elephants being fed. Trust me it's a beautiful experience.

This place has tamed elephants you can see fir a very hefty price. But there are plenty of wild elephants to see in SL. We saw many wild elephants in national parks in north central and southern parts of the country. This addition was pointless.

We traveled for around three hours to get there and it was worth every minute. It looks like a well run place and you get the feeling that they do really do care for the animals. When you first arrive you see some of the elephants at play in a large field, then after that you get the chance to see... More
