About
The Kandy Lake Club Cultural Dance Show is a stimulating Sri Lankan Arts, Dance & Cultural Heritage Show that is a must see for any visitor who visits the historic city of Kandy. The Kandy Lake Club Dance started in 1982 with the view of having a cultural dance performance bringing together all Sri Lankan dance types to one platform. It is the first Cultural Dance Show of its kind to be established in Sri Lanka. It has since become a tourist attraction for many people visiting the country and keen on a glimpse of its rich cultural heritage. Hence it has been performing continuously for the last 35 years. Dance techniques unique to areas of the island are usually passed on from generation to generation. These Dances are performed at local ceremonies and rituals using drums and costumes that are unique to each area. Among the attractions are the Dances depicting the majestic walk of the elephant, colourful performance of the peacock and the mystical movements of the cobra.

Amazing dancers in Kandy, Sri Lanka
We went to this show while holidaying in Sri Lanka and were really impressed with the dancers . Not only their dance and acrobatic ability but also their obvious enjoyment of what they were doing. The show was exciting and professionally executed ending with several dancers walking over hot coals. This was a real highlight of our holiday.

    Amazing
So good! Great to see all different dances from around Sri Lanka! The dancers are all amazing, really professional and entertaining. You can get beer and crisp during the shoe and the drumming is great. Well worth it! Just a quick and cheap tuk tuk ride from the center

    Entertaining and informative cultural show
Entertaining and informative, the Kandy Lake Cultural Dance Show puts on an informative and engaging one-hour dance session. Upon arrival, you can expect to find a program breaking down the one-hour program in multiple languages. The theatre is clean and has an airy amphitheater style. We attended the session with two children, aged 8 and 5 and both found the show very entertaining. The costumes for each dance are stunning and different sections of the program keep everyone engaged. The peacock and fire-eating dances were a hit for the children. You are also able to purchase beverages and small snacks before the start of the program. The bathrooms on site are spotless. Highly recommend it if you are in Kandy.

    Excellent performance
It was an excellent show. Hats off to the drumming team who played endlessly throughout the show. The male and female performers were all very skilled. Costumes were very beautiful. The acrobatics team and the firewalkers stole the show. Perfect time management also. Overall it was very well put-together and executed.

    A Great Experience!
A well-produced and executed performance that gave us insights into old Kandy culture. The music and drumming were captivating, and the dancing seemed flawless. A simple written program adequately explained the meaning and origins of each of the approximately 12 dances. A surprise performance culminated the evening. Bravo to this group that helps preserve the old Sri Lankan traditions!

    Great entertainment
Really enjoyable hour of varied and on occasions, frenzied dancing with elaborate costumes. Great to be provided with a sheet explaining the history and significance of each dance. Walking on coals provided a great finale.

Worthwhile insight into Sri Lankan culture
Beautiful costumes and interesting dances and cultural sharing. About one hour long and well worth seeing. My only caveat was the final act which involved kerosene and flames and really stunk up the auditorium and I feel maybe detracted from the whole show. Others will likely disagree and children will love the final act. The best seats at the front are reserved by large tour groups. There is a simple program for free in many languages. I would go again.

Energetic dance moves, beautiful costumes, Excellent drumming!
Entrance fee is 2000 LKR per person. Came early but noted chairs with best view options had reservation cards on them. I I ended seating at the second level, was able to move to the front seat when the person reserved it for did not show up. The show started around 5:10 pm, one presentation after the other. There were graceful hand movements, tumblings, singing, acrobatic balancing of plates, eating fire, walking on burning coals, etc. The dances were accompanied by music made by the drummers and trumphet. The show ended in an hour, highly recommended to watch this show.
Thank You for your honest feedback . We are happy that you enjoyed our traditional dance show at KLC.

The show exceeded our expectations! Dance, drumming, fire walk show, all great! Even our quite small children (5 and 2,5 yrs old) liked it a lot. I recommend booking the tickets in advance and secure front row seats as the seating is not leveled like in the cinema. The show doesn´t have any intro as to what is going to be performed but they provide written programme (in several languages including Slovak) explaining what the particular dances are about. There´s quite a small parking place so it´s better not to come by car (or come early like we did). What was quite surprising, you can have some drinks from the bar at the venue. Overall, very good experience!

We watched a late afternoon performance at the Red Cross Hall, just a bit past the Temple of the Tooth. We were provided with a program. A conch shell was blown to start things. There was drum beating throughout. There were a number of dances, the male and female performers in colourful costumes. One of them involved plate spinning. Back flips featured in another segment. At the end of the dance segment we rose for the performers to sing the national anthem. Some rows in the audience then went on stage in advance of two male fire eaters, some members still in the audience cringing as fire was passed over their arms and mouths, the chaps smiling away. The grand finale was fire walking over hot coals, lighter fluid added for extra effect. It was a most entertaining hour and very inexpensive at 1,000 rupees. The ubiquitous tips box came out at the end, very much deserved.

The location of the dance added to its overall ambiance. You had to take a number of twists and turns on a hill to actually reach the club. The overall dance was amazing! We witnessed many Sri Lankan dance types such as Magul Bera, Puja Natuma, Devol Natuma etc. Each dance was unique. The ticket was SLR 1250 per person (no refunds) and you could book online, over the phone, or in person. The timings were 5:30 PM onwards. The seating arrangement was good and there was a mini snack bar that served drinks as well. You will also see a fire dance towards the end of the show which was very cool.

A must visit if you visit Kandy.

High energy cultural music and dance show. Great hour of entertainment. Had everything including fire walking across a bed of hot coals. The female dancers were graceful, beautiful and colourful. The male dancers were very athletic and energetic. The musicians provided the beat and rhythm. Well worth the money. The only problem we had was finding transport back to our accommodation. The tuk tuk driver who took us home was rude and abusive and wanted a lot more money than we paid to get there. It would be good if the management of the Kandy Cultural Show could include pick up and drop off in the price of a ticket.

Dear Kim R, Thank you very much for visiting us while you were in Kandy. We really appreciate your great review , amazing described about our show and the recommendation. We will concern about our minus facts that you have mentioned in your review. As we are a private firm we mostly give our premises to access any taxi drivers in Kandy. That's why mostly we are not providing any transportation to the city. But anyway we really appreciate your point and we will look into it soon. Finally our Lake CLub team is grateful for you for the above review. Have a nice day Thank you ,

As stated in the title I never usually review attractions and I don’t usually attend cultural shows of this kind anymore while travelling. I was actually very impressed with this show. It is very well paced, diverse and at an hour long it isn’t one of these affairs that goes on too long or becomes repetitive. I found this show to be well worth the visit and of good value. Highly recommended.

I have been coming to Kandy for 42 years and have seen dancing in all spots from the YMBA to the Lake Club. These days the latter is definitely the best show in town and it has the added bonus of a friendly little bar.

The dancers vary from competent to outstanding with no lemons. The costumes are outstanding. The dancing itself probably contains a few more back flips than is traditional but you can't blame them for that. After all it is a part of Kandy Dancing and they have learned over the years that the acrobatics draws the applause.

The fire walking is not the real deal which you would see at some festivals but it is good entertainment.

I have probably seen the show 10 times (the last three with my grandsons) and so long as we leave it a year or two inbetween we always really enjoy it.

If you go to Kandy see the dancing and if you see the dancing do so at the Lake Club.

Attended the show on 18 February 2020

The show was performed by members of Meurulanka Cultural Dances of Sri Lanka and was organized at Royal Kadyan Hotel Banquet hall.

The placed was filled with about 500 tourists from all over the world and the show was of 30 minutes indoor and 10 minutes outdoor with fire.

Various dance form and costumes and music made this show a memorable one and is a MUST MUST for all visiting Kandy.

Tickets were already organized in our tour package so will not be able to give you the amount.

Go and Enjoy this fabulous culture uphold by its new generation

It was a great show with many different traditional instruments and dances. The group consists of some 13-14 people, male and female dancers and musicians, showing a diversity of Kandyan culture. The show took about 1 hour and we enjoyed every minute of it. Highly recommended when you're in Kandy.

We went with a “have to do some cultural stuff” attitude, without expecting much at all but boy were we pleasantly surprised! The dances are lovely, timed perfectly to keep attention and yet showcase the style. The drummers and acrobatics were really phenomenal. The performers were all smiling and it really came across to the audience. I was very impressed with the drum orchestra at the end! I think overall it is a very well conceptualized one hour performance. I wouldnt miss it!

Hey guys, so before me and my friends visited sri lanka, we did a small browsing through the net to see what are some of the best places to visit. Then came up this lake club cultural dance show. When we further check we found out that it was an hour long show with all the cultural dances of sri lanka.
They had a website to book seats online beforehand, and the prices are really reasonable. We booked seat as our preference, but guys we were not able to visit the show on the day we booked, so we called the manager of this place and got our seats rescheduled, and we were given the same seats we booked for ourself. Thank you for that Lake Club Team.
Anyway when it comes to the show it was riveting i couldnt take my eyes off until the end of the show. I heard from our guide that this place is the best cultural dance show.
I would recommend it for anyone any age.
