Hikkaduwa Beach is a good place for snorkeling! The crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life make it an ideal spot for snorkeling. There are plenty of restaurants along the beach offering delicious seafood and local cuisine, providing the perfect opportunity to refuel after a day of exploring underwater.

One of the highlights of Hikkaduwa Beach is the turtle beach, where turtles often come close to shore, allowing visitors to observe them up close in their natural habitat. It's a truly magical experience and a must-visit for nature lovers.

Whether you're an avid snorkeler or simply looking to relax and enjoy delicious food by the beach, Hikkaduwa Beach has something for everyone!

Nice beach but full of idiot Russians who were constantly touching and feeding the turtles.

The type of people who were there yesterday were package holiday markers rather than travellers and I don't think they had ever seen a turtle in their life the way they were crowding around them and leaning on their shells to take photos. I actually left the beach for an hour as it was that frustrating to watch and then returned hoping there would be more sensible tourists but they were just as dumb stroking their shells and screaming when they were coming close to them.

STOP FEEDING TURTLES- I used to really love this beach. Sure it wasn’t as pretty or as quiet as some of the others down south, but it was what it was and it was close to Colombo. But like so many other beaches now it’s a distressing sight to see people interacting with turtles. Despite other reviews it is NOT OK to feed them (don’t teach wild animals to associate humans with food - it’s not going to end well for either party). What used to be a welcome break from Colombo is now overrun by people harming wildlife so they can post on the gram for likes. Please please don’t do it. If you love somewhere leave no trace.

Of all the beaches in Sri Lanka, we really liked Hikkaduwa. The undertow and crashing surf can be scary for those with young kids, the snorkelling a bit disappointing and the turtle feeding leaves you feeling awful about how these wonderful creatures are treated, oh, and unless you speak Russian you may feel a bit left out, but it's one of the less pretentious places on the Sri Lankan south coast.

Great beach d
Town with a poor reputation.

Youtu.be seems to only show reviews from stoners who don't know what month it is let alone where they are.
Great beachfront well supported by bars with sun loungers.

Main street has good restaurants and bars where you can watch the Bus races.
Locals are genuine and helpful. Good base to do day trips.
We were there 3 weeks and that's about right.
A few Russians hiding from the war but they are low key and not the wannabe gangsta type s you see in Thailand.

Great to see Turtles and snorkeling. Tide can be a little high so if you leave you clothes while swimming then leave the high on the beach

The beach was totally disappointing. Also it is broad, it was totally crowded and dirty. During the flow, the beach dissapears almost under the water, so you have to be careful with your things. Due to the rough sea, it was almost impossible to swim.

There is also a small turtle hatching station nearby, which we didn't pay attention.

Though the beach and the surf are good the town itself is an overpriced tourist trap full of drunken Russians though some of the restaurants were good they charge 5 star prices

This was our last destination of our 3wk adventure and unfortunately we didn't enjoy it that much. Beaches were as nice. And a bit too crowded in places.
Food was still amazing, but we wouldn't return to this venue on another trip to Sri Lanka.

Unfortunately I find the litter on the beach and streets to be disgusting, the majority of food is the same from place to place the riding of turtles is a big no and walking all over the corals to , I witnessed every day , the whale watching trip chasing down whales in high powered boats en-mass is depressing also same in the nature reserve with elephants, the dogs need a culling and are crawling with allsorts of mites ect , this is not just hikk..this is all sri lanka..I've been all over coastal, and inland ect , I've travelled all over the world and iam sick of reading how nice places are when frankly they're not , the country could be stunning if they cleaned it up .. went to Moz last year which is really poor and you don't get the levels of waste there ..such a shame ..but we met some nice locals saw some great sites sigariya the tea plantations ect, but overall such a letdown.. unfortunately on my travels this is becoming more and more.. this is a honest review I could write a book..but see for yourself .. I wish sri lankans all the best , but tidy up your country..
