Obviously not a whole day out but a great place to visit.. You can smash coconuts chilli and garlic and have someone to chant your revenge against someone that has done you wrong. What i found more fascinating is that this small chapel was unaffected by the tsunami.

My wife, our two grand kids and I visited Sri Devol Devalaya on 26th December 2019 after parking our car at the designated car park. Though this is a Buddhist temple, controlled by Buddhist priests, it is dedicated to "Devol", a local deity protecting fishermen and their boats.
The entrance to the temple is by the main road. Visitors are required to remove their footwear at entry. The Devala premises is in two parts - on the mainland and on a small picturesque islet about 200 metres off in the sea.
Passers-by and people who make offerings to the "Devol god" do so at the temple on the mainland temple. In addition to the main shrine room for “Devol” there are smaller shrine rooms for other popular deities, Katharagama, Vishnu, Natha and Pattini. At the mainland there are also a sculpted Buddha statue, an image house for Buddha as well as a bo-tree, fulfilling the basic requirements for a Buddhist temple.
We also took a boat to the main shrine, perched on the rocky island of about 75 sqm. The disembarkation and re-embarkation at the island are risky as there is no landing jetty. Landing at the islet is on a somewhat slippery slab of stone. At the temple there is a specific place to carry out the “coconut breaking ritual”.
People who visit "Devol" do so for a more sinister reason. This deity is said to be capable of placing curses. If a person feels that an injustice had been done, he may come here to seek divine justice seeking the god to curse that person. They do so by grinding chillies on a special stone on the island. This however is a double-edged sword. If the person is innocent, the curse returns to the person who originates it. Powerful god indeed!!
We spent about 90 minutes at the temple including our trip to the islet of deity - "Devol".

This is the smallest Island which is having a worshiping place in side. It is dedicated to one of the female good in Sri Lanka. Some people believe she gives to punishments to people who do wrong things to others. It is very old. Nothing special to see.

Went to the temple and it’s beautiful to see, had a quick look and decided to have a couple of minutes on the beach before heading back to Hikkaduwa. Relaxing in the shadows of the palm trees a man suddenly appears out from the bushes the are heading out to the big road. He pulls down his pants and starts touching him self. I scream at him to go away, he looks down the beach and see other people and then pull up his pants, smiles and leave. When I tell a few locals about the hole thing they tell me that it has happened before. I truly recommend to se the temple but I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay at the beach, especially not alone. Very unpleasant experience!

A nice place. Sorrounded by the sea. You must want a boat to come here. The dhewala officers give that ride for you when you pay for a poojawa. And not only things to see. Here is some more to learn . The Dhewol dewiyo is the load of this place.
