The Golden Temple and particularly the Rock temple are fantastic. Also one of the free admission temples in Sri Lanka, Visit in late afternoon so that you see the sunset from the top- a truly great view.

The cave temples are beautiful and exude an awe-inspiring serenity that you must experience for yourself. The paintings on the uneven rock wall surfaces are just as impressive as the statues. Beautiful and a great visit for tourists. Make sure you pack plenty water and wear comfy shoes as it's a good climb in the heat!

Nice place, specially for those who have interest in Buddhism and architecture. This is mysterious how on earth people built such big and beautiful statues 2100 years ago!!!!

The temple has beautiful painting on the ceiling but not a "simply stunning temple". For me Buddist temples always have a sense of peace and I can't explain why I did not feel it here. Definitely worth a visit but I was slightly disappointed. We went after the ticket fee (LKR 1500) was introduced and many people were walking up... More
