- AethelredCambridge, Massachusetts1,337 contributionsGo for the beautiful buildings! The museum of the League of Prizren also contains local folklore heritage exhibitions in the big building, and league items in the smaller. The exhibitions themselves are perhaps underwhelming, but we had excellent guides for both, if the one for the former was a bit, shall we say, under the influence of black legends as regards the Ottoman Empire. But that is only fitting to a League museum which was, after all, anti-Ottoman. But what I think makes this museum stand out is the gorgeous, extremely well renovated and kept architecture of the grounds and buildings, with the second-best backdrops for social media posts (sorry to say it like that), right after the bridge/river/mosques one close by. The way the main building organically weaves along in an S-curve, with an ancient mosque in the further background, is great, as is the smaller house. In this combination, it is I think the highlight in Prizren, and not to be missed.Visited November 2023Travelled on businessWritten 26 November 2023
- mel7155Singapore, Singapore1,344 contributionsGood historical site for locals . To others, it provides context.Nice place to visit and spent 14-20 minutes of your time looking at the building where the locals try to forge and declare their need for independence. The building is pretty small and contain some historical documents . Other than that it is just a plain building.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 30 April 2024

Sadly there was no English or even Albanian explanation for the most part of the museum. Entrance cost 1 or 1.50 Euro, I do not remember exacly anymore. Due to lack of information and also small exhbition, I do not think anyone needs over 30 minutes to view it.

Following the Russo-Turkish war in 1877-78 much of the rule of the Ottoman empire in the Balkans ended. Serbia and Bulgaria emerged as independent countries but ethnic Albanians were left on their own and there was great fear they would be assimilated into their neighbours. This gave rise to the creation of the Albanian League of Prizren which fought for the Albanian people in the area. The museum in Prizren contains some interesting artefacts including photographs from the late 1870s/early 1880s but not a lot of detail. As others have suggested a guide is the best way to understand what took place. Part of the complex was destroyed by the Serbs in March 2004 when Kosovo was seeking independence.. It has been fully rebuilt in the same manner. Also in the complex is a small ethnographic museum which contains a number of local costumes. Entrance is 1 euro.

The Albanian League of Prizren was an Albanian political organization officially founded on June 10, 1878. At the meeting the Albanian leaders emphasized their intention to preserve and maintain the territorial integrity of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans by supporting the "to struggle in arms to defend the wholeness of the territories of Albania". This initial position has changed radically and resulted in demands of autonomy of Albanians and open war against the Ottoman Empire.

Just off the main street, this is an important bit of Albanian history. You might need an Albanian patriot to wax lyrical about the rooms and the events commemorated in in them, but if you are fortunate to have one to hand, you will appreciate all the more why Albanians are so proud of their heritage. Give this a visit.

Hello. I was just wondering if this is the ˝Šaip-pašina kuća˝ (sorry, dont know the albanian name for it), in which the famous actor Bekim Fehmiu grew up?
I can not find anything about it on web. If not, where is it. I heard it was reconstructed after 2010.
Thank you very much for any information.

Hello. Frankly speaking, this is a first time to hear that he lived in that house. Fact also intrigued me :).
What I know about that house (In Albanian Shuaip Pasha house) is that house was the home of Shuaip Pasha, first Abanian Minister of Finance and one of leaders of Prizren Ligue. House is totally burned in 1999 and reconstructed in previous form in 2012.
Ja sam takodjer i turisticki vodic za Kosovo:), tako da ako budete dolazili na Kosovu (Prizrenu), slobodno me kontaktrajte :).
Lepi pozdravi.
