Water fountain maybe ok at best to visit, but other than that nothing else to do or see.

Rather disappointing as most major cities would use a feature like this to create a hub of other things to do with retail, entertainment and dining.

Slightly better at night time to visit but wouldn’t put in my to do list.

I am from Podgorica and we must admit that this is the most boring and dissapointing place. It is very clean but there is nothing to se or do there. Just big place with nothing on it.

Really wish there was more to this little square, then just an average looking fountain in the center of it. Not much else to say about it.

Because of the scorching summers, this central square - like the rest of the city - only really comes alive when the sun goes down. After that it's a nice spot for meeting up and socialising. The rest of the day it's largely empty and uninviting.

After reading so many negative reviews, please take into account:

This is the main square of a relatively small European capital. Podgorica has just over 200,000 inhabitants, roughly one third of the population of Montenegro.

Podgorica was almost completely in ruins after WOII as a result of repeated bombing by USA and British planes and heavy fighting first against the Italian occupiers and later Nazi Germany.

After the war Podgorica (renamed Titograd) had to be rebuild with very limited resources. Even in Western Europe in the 1950s architectural styles were businesslike and functional.

After Montenegro's independence in 2006 the square was renovated. Most of it is now a pedestrian zone. There are benches and a fountain. In front of the library there are palm trees showing the city has a relatively mild climate. For me the main asset of the square is the absence of tourists. For once local people dominate. Lovely.

For those interested in history. Republican square used to be called Ivan Milutinović square after the legendary Montenegrin partizan leader, native of Podgorica who died in 1944.

If you are in Podgorica City Center, you wont missed being at this place. This Square is where Podgoricans gathered for the new year celebration. It is walking distance to major attractions of the city.

Obviously not spectacular, but it's still nice to find an open square in the city of Podgorica when going for a walk around the city

Fontein in the city centre is the most common place for meeting people. There are a lot of restaurants, shops, banks, pharmacies, supermarkets and boutiques around so it makes a pleasant time walking around. Nearby are the library of Radosav Ljumović and Montenegrin National Theatre,a big bookstore and beauty shop. This is the main place for a big concerts.

It's not an attraction at all. Visit somewhere else. Or simply skip Podgorica, there is nothing out there.

This is certainly not a capital which boasts a wealth of sights. Even so, you will be disappointed if you come to this empty, nondescript square expecting to see anything of note. The buildings around it are devoid of anything interesting or out of the ordinary. Even the public fountain at its centre looks old and run down. I do not consider this a real attraction.
