He visited on his Montenegro tour. Serbian Orthodox Church in Potgorica, the capital of Montenegro. You could call it modern Byzantine architecture, but unlike the historical religious sites you are used to, it has a somewhat stylish and contemporary appearance. Construction of this cathedral began in 1993 and is new with completion in 2013. As well as the exterior, the interior is beautiful. It is decorated with so-called Byzantine wall paintings in gold. Potgorica is Montenegro's largest city, but it has become a battleground in World War II, destroying most of its historic buildings and leaving few tourist attractions. The main tourist attraction is this cathedral.

We unfortunately didn't have much time in Podgorica, and also struggled to find parking for our car nearby, so we only had the chance for a quick view of the exterior. (Its name in English on our map was the Orthodox Temple of Christ's Resurrection). I would have appreciated having a little more time to go inside, but even from a quick walk around the exterior, it was a beautiful building to see and enjoy.

Free entry and one of the best to see in MN. Spent around 45 min admiring the beautiful church with a long history. Not enough info about the church at the site. A must in Podgorica.

Very beautiful church, you have to visit as it is so peaceful and spiritual. There is work in progress on the outside which is very interesting, not often you get to watch a stonemason working! a must visit!

After a disappointing walk around town, I almost didn't go in. That would have been a shame. Beautifully picted stages of Christ's birth to crucifixion. We went all the way up to the dome. And its free entry.

Let's face it: Podgorica is probably the most maligned capital city in Southeastern Europe. We have to stop doing that! Let's focus on what the city has to offer and stop saying things like "It's not a pretty as Mostar, or it doesn't have all the museums of Skopje, or there aren't as many restaurants like in Dubrovnik."

This church is brand new. Yes, it still looks like a construction zone around the building. Did you expect them to complete the landscaping before they opened the church? Come on. They are still working to finish the church decorations so give them a break on the landscaping. They will finish it.

This church, while new and without historical importance, is of great importance to the Orthodox community of Podgorica. It is a new, modern, and beautiful place of worship, welcoming everyone through its doors. Go now! Just make sure you're dressed appropriately.
