This site is a tranquil place to let tour young children run around, and yet is also an amazing archaeological site with incredibly preserved work. The mix of beautiful gardens and a historical, religious site is a must visit for the area.

Baia Mare - another historically significant city of Transylvania and the Stephen Tower is one of the symbols of the city today.
The tower was part of the church of St. Stephen ( king Stephen of hungary who was the first christian king and as such got sanctified by the pope in Rome), the church got built in the 13 hundreds but the tower was built much later . The tower got built on the initiative of John Hunyadi (duke of Transylvania and regent to the throne of Hungary ) - building started in 1446 - to commemorate John's victory over the Ottomans in the battle of Ialomita 1442 - he did not saw it finished since he died in Zemun in 1456, after crushing the Ottomans, again, at the walls of Belgrade. The tower was finished during the reign of Mathias Rex (Corvin) in 1468.
Visiting is bound to hours , that are different from day to day - so check at the Tourist information Center- also you need to pay a fee to get to the top of the tower - we arrived after closing hours - so next time when in Baia Mare - we will check it out. The tower is 50 meters tall - so the view from above should be very interesting.
When in Baia Mare - check out this place - it is worth it!

This is a must see in baia Mare, a very nice building also on the outside and in the inside. The only minus part is you can enter the tower only one family at a time so you must wait a bit if there are many persons in the line.

Stephen’s Tower is the most renown site in Baia Mare and it’s the most notorious symbol of the town. Located in the vicinity of the Old Center, in a modernized and quiet square, it is well-worth visiting, along with other many touristic objectives found in the area.

The tower can be visited from above and offers a minute panorama of the city, up to the Ignis Mountains, Gutin, Coconut Creek and the nearby villages. In the square of the tower can be seen parts of the ruins of the old fortress, the Roman Catholic Church of the Franciscan Order. Stefan's tower is near the old town center of Baia Mare, where there are restaurants, cafes, occasional fairs of products and traditional objects.

Been there with family, easy access but is a bit of an effort as is high. Worth it though. The view is spectacular and is plenty space to walk around the tower on the platform and you can see the city 360°. And is free entry. Be aware the access is available starting from 2 pm only

I got to visit Stephen’s Tower one evening during a special event. The interior is nicely renovated and the view of the city is quite special during the evening.

It is am amazing place, in good shape (recently restored) and offers a great view of the city. It may be difficult for some to climb up, as it is quite narrow and in some places steep, but it's worth it.
