You can see a magnificent exhibition organized on collections of rocks, minerals, crystals from the mines of Maramures county and other areas in Romania, with useful explanations for the geology and mineralogy enthusiasts. At the entrance there is a store with minerals, rocks, crystals in the rough or mounted in jewelry.

The museum displays a huge collection of unique or rare rocks and minerals. The atmosphere is very relaxing and watching all the rocks displayed gives you a deep sense of appreciation for our planet.

A spectacular museum with thousands of crystals and rocks of rare beauty. It is considered by the specialists as one of the largest regional museums that is structured on samples from the Neogene volcanoes area of Baia Mare and the adjacent areas.

This museum truly displays some of the most unique, interesting and downright breathtaking rocks and minerals I have ever seen. But during my visit, I could not get past one enormous problem: the lack of lighting. There simply was not adequate lighting to properly display the splendour of these stones. We were literally walking around with our cell phone flashlights shining into the display cases so that we could see the light reflections off the shiny faces of the rocks and the colours (which were stunning — apparently!). Some of the larger rocks were on display on the floor outside of the display cases and did not have a single light shining on them - we would have missed how spectacular they were, had we not had our own flashlights.

I understand that the museum is government run and it might not be easy to attain the funding required to upgrade the lighting, but somehow I still hope someone who can help reads this and considers that it might be an important investment for the community. I would have gladly paid a higher admission price for this museum if it had been better presented.

In conclusion, the content of the museum was 5/5 stars, but the poor demonstration was a real shame.

A nice museum that displays beautiful minerals extracted in the region. The museum has two floors and beside minerals it also has a small movie theater ( only in Romanian I think ) that presents minerals together with different facts about them.

"Victor Gorduza" Mineralogy Museum is an interesting place to visit, even for small children. First of all the fees are very cheap (8 RON for adults, 4 RON - children over 6 years, 6 RON - retired persons, free for persons with disabilities, press, teachers with groups of children). The permanent exhibition comprises over 1,000 mineral samples, ores, rocks and fossils harvested from the Baia Mare area and the adjacent areas of Maramures and northwestern Romania.
It is structured in four sections: petrography, mineralogy, deposits, on the ground floor of the building and "mine flowers" upstairs. It is worth noting the fossil flora from the Chiuzbaia Scientific Reserve because it is unique in Europe. It also deserves to look at fluorescent minerals. By exposure to ultraviolet light, pink calcins and fluorides create a true light show. Last but not least, it is worthwhile seeing samples of rare metals in pure state: Tellurium (99.995%), Selenium (99.995%).
