A trip to Agadez just isn't complete without visiting the grande mosquee. The mud-brick construction makes it a pretty unique mosque, and the view from the roof is lovely. As of December 2015, the minaret was closed for renovation, so I couldn't climb it, but could still access the roof to see across the whole city. Getting access was a... More

The view from the top of the minaret is unbeatable. A small donation will give you access to most of the mud brick mosque. Watch for spider webs and bats... lots and lots of bats going up the tower.

As I crossed the desert from Tammanrasset to In-Guezzam in the Republique du Niger, we drove in my Landrover Stationwagon Mark III to Agadez. there is the old Mosque, and because it was just a Friday, we went for the Salat ( the prayer).
