Visiting this place was such an experience. You have to be prepared to walk for over 8 hours, but the place worth it. Ometepe is a little paradise in Nicaragua. It is not very touristic, but the landscape and the wild life is really beautiful!

We hiked to the falls and it was beautiful and totally worth the time. We did get trapped on the Island (sounds like it is not uncommon) which was a bit of a pickle but in the end we had a good time and are glad we went.

Hiked to the look put which took 3 hours. The last hour was a decent climb, not sure I could have climbed the whole mountain. The view was breathtaking- definitely worth it!

Okay, this was not on MY bucket list, but apparently it was for someone else I was with, so there I was, sweating, huffing, puffing all the way up! I'm thinking "are we there yet?" and "I'm too old for this" (40y) and then we get passed by a group and they don't even look winded! People of all ages... More

Climbing this volcano is a phenomenal experience, but it is only for the very physically fit. It is truly a once-in a lifetime feeling the climb the rugged and arduous path and see the orchids and monkeys and birds and perhaps a small boa constrictor. But make sure you have adequate food and water. Get some toe jambs so you... More

Went up on a super rainy day with 7 people and a guide. I had been pretty sick for a few days and was feeling weak but I really wanted to climb a volcano on Ometepe. It took a really long time for me to get to the "top" (you don't actually go to the very top). It rained for... More

The hike is really hard, 4-5 hours to go up and 4 hours to go down, but worth it! The view is AMAZING! and the lagoon crater is really nice! Must do with a guide.

we went with a private guide and 2 others. glad i had running/hiking shoes. My fitbit tracked 300 floors that day. we went up pretty quickler. Saw white faced monkeys and went through the clouds. The way down was actually somewhat harder! So glad we did it. I had 3 liters of water for 2 of us and it wasn't... More

It is a long walk up to the volcano, but worth the pain. You will pass a coffee and cacao plantation, the trails will get more and more demanding while hiking the steep path through thick and misty jungle. We walked up in April, just before the rainy season starts and didt have a lot of mud. It took us... More

We hired a guide through our hotel and he took us on a private guided tour of the volcano. It is not an easy hike up but well worth it. There are some beautiful views along the way and as you near the top the climate turns into a cloud forest which was neat to experience. It gets very muddy... More
