The center of Chefchauouen is a small place. It is also spectacularly beautiful. One should take the time to see it all--a walk of an hour or so. Shopping in the central square is nothing special, but the knitted wool caps are worth bargaining for.

It is small enough to wonder on your own, get a little bit lost, and find your way around. If not the people are very friendly and are... More

If I were to recommend any place in Morocco, this would be #1. It's absolutely unique and magnificent. Every single street and corner is inspiring. Be aware that few locals like to be photographed. One should always ask. Also, selling hashish seems to be quite common there; the good thing is that they won't follow you or insist if you... More

This city is truly magnificent and worth going out of your way to visit. Make sure you are prepared to deal with the constant haggling from sellers.

It's ridiculous and a little funny that the whole city is painted blue. But there is a kinda crappy chic quality about it that makes it quaint.

Coming from Fez to Chefchaouen, I could immediately feel the difference. Chaouen is a very small, peaceful and safe city where no one would warn you of pickpocketing. As a solo traveler, it was extremely safe to walk back to the hotel at night, even when the streets were nearly empty. The blue gives the city a special vibe that... More
