The first time we visited was on a Saturday and it was closed, but there was a member of staff from the language school in the basement of the building told us why it was shut. While waiting we had helped a young man who wanted to practice his Engish. When we did go back it was open, this was Monday, staff were very helpful and gave us some really good pointers.

The ladies who work here are friendly and full of information. They are happy to hand out maps, along with necessary transport information.

I have long intended to visit this information center, interested in the cultural exhibits shown in their advertisements. When I came to the indicated address (Tiraspol, Sovetskaya str. 135), I found that there was no tourist information center there, the premises shown in the photographs were empty. After a while, a furniture store was opened there. I decided to find out what was the matter.

It turns out that this center has nothing to do with the official travel agency of Pridnestrovie, but was created by the non-governmental organization "Agency for Regional Development of Transnistria (ARDT)" (in English), which is funded from Moldova. I think it is obvious that it will be at least difficult for such an organization with such a provocative and offensive name to work in Pridnestrovie. As you might expect, as a result of another conflict with the authorities, they were forced to close their center and move to some slum basements. Quite expected.

Well worth making the effort to visit the Tourist Information Centre in downtown Tiraspol. The staff are very knowledgeable about Tiraspol and the surrounding region and can really help with queries about transport. THere are also a bunch of tacy souvenirs available if you need them.
