Overall, a good place to visit for the day. The trails through the jungle are generally well marked and are not to be underestimated. I did the waterfalls walk which took about 4 hrs of strenuous walking - there are many steep inclines some of which needed the assistance of the ropes provided. I didn't see ANY of the named wildlife (I was quiet and observant) but even without tour guide, the jungle was amazing. I did this is a day trip from Miri (itself not worth visiting) with a Grab there and a very lucky lift back as i was told by the Park Ranger that I would struggle with buses/taxis out there due to major road works going on.

We went with the intention to have a nice picnic next to the waterfalls but in the end the waterfalls have been closed off! And please be aware that this is strictly suitable for jungle trekking purposes, especially for those with some hiking experience to ensure a pleasant hike. There are some parts on the Pantu Trial that was very steep that requires a bit of stamina and since the path wasn't very well-maintained, a pair of shoes with good traction is highly recommended. We were quite disappointed that we weren't able to access the waterfall but it was still nice to be able to see it along the hike.

I spent half a day visiting Lambir Hills NP.
It was a pleasant hike up to the waterfall/swimming hole.
There were little shelters dotted around which would have been great for a picnic.
Swimming in the waterhole was fun (luckily I had water shoes - otherwise, I don't think I'd have fancied it).
I only saw 3 other people whilst I was in the Park.
I enjoyed it.
Happy to recommend.

The staff at the counter was very helpful, she gave us many important information before we proceed to hike, keep it up.
It is a challenging trail for a beginner like me, but it is a must to visit for all levels of hiking enthusiast, I will definitely come back to challenge again.
Markings in the trail were perfectly refine but it is better to add more of them & the obstacles on the route was kept to minimal eg. fallen trees.
There is room for improvement but I don't want to detail it, overall it is still above average. Bravo!

Before I took a Grab, I had checked online. It showed that the park is open for today. When I reached there, I saw notices on the wall and counter saying that it is closed for maintenance until further notice!!! The authority should make sure their current status is up-to-date on the internet.I had spent RM50 for the transport and at the end getting nothing! Really disappointed with Lambir National Park authorities!

Before you take on this outing make sure you are prepared.
We were out walking for approx. 4 hours and one thing I can say is that this is NOT just a walk in the park as you have to climb some serious upslope(s) and it is not just one it is, according to our guide, nine. It takes it strength so, be prepared. You have to be in good shape. The tour guide told us that it is very common that after the first waterfall people want's to walk back. He was very happy that we decided to take on the challenge and continue and do the whole tour.
When I bought this 'outing' they didn't tell me. I thought they should take us to some nice waterfalls not walking for 4 hours.
If you're prepared it is a very interesting tour to do - but you have to be pretty fit to make it.
I hope I don't scare you off here. Bring drinking water, a couple of bananas for some extra energy. You gonna need it ;)
Have a lovely walk....
PM me if you need more information.

The national park is like 40min drive from Miri. The entrance is 20MYR per person (one will have to register at the counter) and you will received a detailed map of different hiking trails. At the entrance there are toilets and a place with drinks and snacks (very reasonably priced). It seems like that one could stay there as we saw many chalet before the entrance to the trails.
Overall there are many hiking trails (some leading to peaks, some to water falls and it might few days to hike them all) and in the map you receive the distances and approximately time are indicated. The path is quite obvious and every now and again there signs - so basically I was not worried we will get lost. The paths is keep natural (so no wooden/stone paths/no fence) expect in few areas and at times it really gets very slippery. The hiking involved a little bit of jumping, there might be area with a small water current and just a tree trunk to cross it (so you will need to balance your self well while crossing the trunk) so overall I will consider the hike moderately difficult. The whole group is in a quite good shape yet we did not manage to make more than 1km in 1h. The fauna (we saw a snake, many insects) and flora (despite not many plants blooming) were quite spectacular!
Overall we were hiking for like 4h (including swimming in two water falls, pictures taking) and and we were very exhausted at the end. I had normal sport shoes and I wish to have better shoes as it was really very slippery. Take plenty of water, snack, mosquito repellent, clothes for changing (in case you want to swim) and start early as you want to leave the place before it gets dark. Overall we all enjoy the hike very much!! I would strongly recommend the park if visiting Miri.

Good national park with a very interesting flora and fauna and , with excellent trails. A negative thing is that larger mammals and birds are rare and declining due to poaching, a common problem in Sarawak. The staff is friendly and the restaurant are ok, staff very friendly there. The Latak waterfall and the trail there is very crowded on weekends, but the other trails are normally empty. The observation tower is closed and I doubt it will open again.

I solo hiked Lambir Hills and while this is not advisable (many hikers get lost in the jungle), I reckon any experienced mountaineer or hiker should have no problem navigating the twisting and winding trails of Lambir Hills National Park.
As I did not meet a single person during my hike to the summit, I experienced a trail all to myself. The jungle sounds are great, as wild birds and monkeys can be heard. I only managed to spot a wild deer (first time in my life!) and several ground-based birds, though I couldn't recognise what they were exactly. If you're looking for solitude, take the Inoue (pink) - Lepoh Ridan (yellow) - Summit (red/blue) trail; I was told not a lot of people do this trail, as it's challenging and goes deep into the jungly.
Bring enough water and trail snacks to sustain you for at least six hours; I had to ration my water (1L) even though I finished the summit backtrail in under 5 hours (failed summit attempt, video here: youtube.com/watch?v=9DCOi9ITuKU). Make sure to bring a dry bag to waterproof items in case you slip into a stream or a short rain shower occurs. Also, bring cash (in MYR) to pay for fees, refreshments after the hike, and the transport back if you're taking the bus. If you're planning to do the deep jungle trail hike, cover as much skin as comfortably possible to avoid leech bites (I had one on my right calf).
Getting there:
1. Pujut Corner bus station, arrive by 0730H to take the 0745H-0800H bus. Take Bus 33A (the ones that go to Batu Niah or Bintulu). Fee is MYR 10.00.
2. NEVER take the Lambir bus; that goes somewhere else.
3. The ride will take between 30-45 minutes. Watch out for brown road signs that say "Lambir National Park". Not just "Lambir", but with "National Park".
4. Get down at the national park, on your RIGHT.
5. At Lambir Hills, the fee is MYR 10.00 for Malaysian citizens and MYR 20.00 for foreigners. Note that the park closes at 1700H and that you must be out of the jungle by 1600H.
6. Refreshments at the park cost between MYR 2.00 to MYR 4.00.
7. To get home, simply flag down any bus going towards Miri. Try to flag down a bus before 1730H (last bus). No fix times for buses so be patient. Fee is MYR 10.00.

We recently stopped in the cabins at the national park. They are basic but great for people wanting to visit the jungle.
We stopped in cabin 12. This had two rooms and a shared lounge. We booked one room but nobody else was stopping there so we had it all to ourselves. There is a nice outdoor seating area to hang out in the evening. It's quiet, no mod cons or hot water so don't expect a hotel but for cheep hostel type accommodation it was great. There are a few ants and bugs about so take repellent.
Our room had a fridge, fan and on-suite (toilet, shower and sink) it also had air con but that was faulty. We would have reported it during our stay but there was an area wide power cut whilst we were there so it wouldn't have worked anyway!
There is a cafe on site, we didn't eat there but I think you could get a basic hot meal if you wanted.
The staff were friendly and there was always someone around if you needed any help.
There isn't much near by so take your own provisions, that said only 40 min drive any you can be in Miri so if you have a car it's easy to get to a big town.

We plan to visit Lambir and Niah in one time visit, we stay in Miri. Is it possible to do that? We plan to rent a van (private).
Is there a restaurant for lunch?
Which is time consumer to visit Niah Cave or Lambir?
Thank you,
Jeffrey
Written 28 June 2017
You can do both Lambir and Niah caves in a day but you will be rushing and you can only do long hikes in both places. Perhaps, hike to the water fall in Lambir and the first cave in Niah. There is a town close to Niah that has several restaurants.

How far a drive is this from Miri and how much time do you recommend spending in Lambir Hills park?
Written 29 May 2017
Hi Janet
the drive is less than 1 hour
I would recommend a whole day to enjoy the nature
I did a 3 hours thing because, I had a 6 year old and a 60 years old
Written 7 June 2017
Yes. There is a simple BBQ pit available in that area which I believe is for the visitor's use. However, I think it is best to call and ask the park management directly because making fire in a wooded area is normally not encouraged for safety reasons.
Written 10 March 2017
I don't see any bbq pits neither but to be honest, I doubt you can as they are quite strict with pollution and keeping the nature as it as. Even when one of the huge trees fell, they can't remove it. According to my guide, he say that they can't bring out anything out of the forest. Try doing a picnic instead...
Written 14 March 2017
Hi there, can you actually swim by the waterfalls or at least refresh yourself? There were some conflicting pieces of information here. Thank you so much!
Written 8 June 2015
Hello. Yes, I have seen visitors' swimming in the area. The area nearest to the waterfall is cordoned with floating markers (due to the depth and fast moving water) so visitors should not cross that line.

Hallo iedereen,
Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me of how I need to get there by public transport from Miri and where I need to be?
I am planning a visit to Borneo to explore nature, at the end of August and will be also in Miri.
Is this also doable with a 7 year old child?
Is it better to take a guide, what is your experience?
How much will it cost me to make this excursion?
I am talking about public transport, guide and entrance and so.
Thanks in advance for your response.
