We were hoping to see turtles but a little fearful that the tourism may be too invasive. I'm no expert but it seems to be a very well run operation and we were impressed. Tourist numbers each night are limited to 30, you are not allowed on the beach unaccompanied from 5pm to 6am. Only one mother each night is... More

We took a boat to turtle island and met our guide we still had time till turtle time so went swimming. After that we went to join everyone for a buffet dinner. we waited until we got our call "turtle time " we ran and saw an amazing sight of a mother turtle laying her eggs. soon after we watched... We managed to book here for 2 nights through Crystal Quest (though it was very difficult to do this). Most other groups were with a guide from a local guesthouse (which is way more expensive and unnecessary). There is no real need to stay for 2 nights, but we thought we could just chill out and swim. It rained for... More

The rooms are basic but it's all about the experience which is fantastic. We were lucky enough to watch a turtle laying eggs then watched newly hatched baby turtles being released in to the sea. An added bonus was seeing a turtle the following morning on the beach that had just laid its eggs and watching it return to the... More

This is a fantastic get-away and truly a unique experience of understanding more about the protection of endangered species. After an hour long boat ride (quite bumpy and wet, bring meds if you're prone to sea sickness) you reach a beautiful island where you can spend the afternoon at the beach, snorkeling or simply relaxing. Before dinner there is a... More

I loved the experience of Turtle Island and what is being done there to help the turtles. We were very lucky that a mother turtle came to lay her eggs at 8.45pm.Its amazing what they do and after watching this and the subsequent burying of the eggs by the ranger we then went to the beach to release the hatchlings. The... More

Kinabalu had been on my bucket list for years but if my friend hadn't suggested the Turtle Island Park, I would have missed out on this amazing place.

This is a wonderful trip and the experience can fill a whole chapter of a book. First you take a boat from Sandakan to the island. The place we stay is good enough and even had air conditioning. We just relax and swim during the day. It is at night that the activity begins. We sat and waited for the... More

My friend and I visited Turtle Island in March 2016 as part of our nature tour of South East Asia. This was one of the more expensive excursions we went on, but we knew it would be a special experience that justified the price tag. We met our guide Terence (a complete legend and turtle expert) in the town centre... More

4 stars for the experience. Seeing turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on the island is a once in a lifetime experience! The accommodation however is another story... The island is beautiful and you can walk around or swim during the day and then after dinner everyone waits in the cafe until the turtles come ashore - whatever time... More
