This is a very colourful temple with spectacular views down to the port, the ocean and back towards the centre of KK. There is a second temple next door and a third under construction all of which are very large. No surprise I guess when the Chinese Malaysians are the second largest ethnic group in the country.

Some nice bronzes around the temple and extremely colourful carvings and buddhas inside. Worth a visit for the view alone.

I just came back from the temple, the views are amazing! The temple itself is also very nice with dragons wrapped around large columns, several Buddha statues and colorful offerings. We spent there around 1 hour enjoying the views and walking around the temple. I would say it is definitely worth seeing. You don’t even have to take a taxi to get there (which would cost you about 40 MYR). Instead, we just walked to the bus station and took a bus headed to Taman Mawar. We paid 1 MYR each and asked the person that collects the bus fare to drop us off at the Puu Jih Shih Temple. The bus will eventually go up the hill and leave you at the entrance of the road that leads to the temple. It takes less than a 10-minute walk from there. Most part of the road is flat, only the last 50 meters are uphill.

I am a local and i would like tell tips that tourist can actually take a Leila Bus from Sandakan town to Pu Ji Shih temple. Get to town main bus station. Hop onto Leila bus with destination to Taman Indah or Taman Mawar, make sure you ask the driver to stop at Pu Ji Shih temple. The bus will stop at a bus stop near Pei Ying Primary School. From there, you need to walk quite far about half an hour to reach to beautiful temple on hill. Be careful of stray dogs as the residents there rare dogs. I will reccomend tourists to take an easier way, which is to take a Grab. No walking and not tiring.

We arrived to Sandakan from Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon and after checking into our hotel, most activities were closing soon, so we made a quick visit to the Puu Joh Shih Temple. The temple is on a hill, beautiful, clean, and well cared for. We were the only visitors when we arrived and it was nice to wander around and take photos alone. The temple is not large, and you can easily visit for under an hour. When we visited on a Thursday in July, the temple closed its doors at 4:00pm, so make sure to leave ample time as we cut it close. Also, make sure to take your shoes off!

A great place for viewing places and town. They were some prayers on that day when we were there for a visit and they have a occasion for vegetarians buffet lunch. It was a fabulous experience of the foods. Should have a chance to try if your next trip to visit in Sandakan town. Good luck.

We finished up visiting here 3 times with our guide Christopher. Will always have treasured memories of this beautiful place..
First visit was during week, when the temple people said we must come back on weekend as festivals were on both days with lunches prepared by their people. Having our own guide ,it was easy to arrange. Saturday & Sunday we joined their community and shared the sumptuous lunch they provided.
It was our pleasure to browse about the temple with our guide who was helping explain the details to us of various parts of the temple & what they meant. Also pointing out the intricate detail of the building. We found Christopher via Trip Advisor when planning our trip, his contact - email weetung63@gmail.com our best choice ever..

A truly wonderful temple although it has no resident monks. The temple behind the main temple is the crematorium. It is interesting to see the notices of who are the members of the temple and their contributions. Currently under repair it has the atmosphere and the views (when you can see them through the haze) are truly wonderful, Sandakan lies before you.
