RDC is first and foremost an environmental education centre managed by the Sabah Forestry Department. It has been operating since 1997 but mainly for school visits and organising events for school students and also teacher training courses on environmental education. It was later developed for visitors mainly to sustain the environmental education programme for the future.

We formally opened to visitors in August 2007 and is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. However, visitors are allowed to stay until 7 pm for viewing of the flying squirrels at the 347-m long Canopy Walkway, the only such structure in Southeast Asia. The newly revamped Birders Rest is now with a 90 m-long walkway, an open hall, a small centre and toilets.

As of Nov 16th 2013, we have a new operator for the Keruing Cafe whom we hope will provide better services for our visitors.

We've spent an afternoon walking around the Rainforest Discovery Centre and I totally recommend it for anyone who is interested in nature and wildlife. We were lucky enough to see an orangutan when we were there and the canopy walk is also really cool.

Huge range of trees and birds. The birds can be difficult to spot so you have to take your time and wait and be silent. The trails are good and extensive.

A well set out park where you could spend the whole day. Excellent tree top walk from which we were able to observe a young Orang Utan at play. We went back later for the night walk, which started slow but then just got better and better - a Slow Loris and a Tarsier.

Went by local taxi 120rm for half day hire (£24). Entry only £3 each, the walkways are really good to get great views of the rainforest, and birds if your lucky, when a lot of people are around the noise can scare birds away, try not to be one of those tourists! But the walks are great and the flower... More

We weren't even planning on going to the RDC originally but ended up having extra time waiting for the Orang Utan Sanctuary to open for the afternoon. I'm so glad we went because we were able to see an Orangutan mother and her baby in the wild! We had no expectations, and got extremely lucky. The RDC is also way... More

The Rainforest discovery centre is a special place. The tracks and boardwalks really show off the rainforest and the towers you can climb for a bird's eye view accentuate the attraction. The discovery centre itself holds lots of interesting information. I really recommend a visit.

We went her two days on a row because it was so nice here. We got real close to 3 wild orangutans, saw bearded pig, monitor lizard and many many birds! The canope walk is the best place. You get up so you can see the wildlife living higher up in the rainforest.

Visited the RDC after staying in the area of Sepilok and found it was walking distance from our accommodation, it is fairly cheap to enter and is a worthwhile experience for the money. Canopy walk is a lot of fun and it feels great to be as high as the trees! We didn't see too much wildlife during our visit... More

Visited in the afternoon, really quiet. Lots of interesting plants, flowers and shrubs and information telling you all about them and the rainforest in general. Worth a wander to learn more about the beautiful place you are in. A lot of walking involved. Canopy walkway was amazing, great views of the canopy.
