Nature at its best near Sde Boker in Israel's south. About two hours from Jerusalem/Tel Aviv if traffic is reasonable, an impressive desert canyon with springs and streams and waterfalls. Entrance for a fee from Midreshet Ben Gurion at Sde Boker, near Ben Gurion's grave, the scenery from which is not to be missed. One can walk down into the... More

This is a stark desert setting in the Negev, with an ancient Nabatean City (Avdat) which once controlled the trade from Arabia in frankincense. The ruins are well preserved and very impressive. In a small box canyon nearby, we were silently passed by a herd of 30 camels. Magic.

The excavations at Avdat are simply amazing. Wandering through the ruins after viewing the short film at the Visitors Center gave us a sense of the life and experience of the Nabateans and then the Byzantines who inhabited this spot. A not to miss experience when going to the Negev Desert in Israel.

Near Ben Gurion's Desert home in Sde Boker this is an area of stunning natural beauty. A walk down beneath soaring rock faces and along a mountain stream will stay in your memory bank for ever. Very beautiful!

Avdat is one of the 3 UNESCO parks that forms Incense Route - Desert Cities in the Negev. You can learn lot of history in this place if you have a guide.

Avdat National Park is a gem that not that many visitors to Israel get to see. The lunar landscape and the rock formations have to be seen to be believed.

This is part of the Israel National Park system. They have an informative video of the site down at the visitor's center and then you drive to the top for the site. It has a bit of everything: Roman, Byzantine, Nabatean ruins, plus some caves along the way down

This park is very amazing. It has a beautiful landscape and gives you a very impressive view on how the Israelis use the desert as a hiking location. The ways are very easy to go to the waterfalls so that even people who are not the best hikers can easily reach the waterfall. But what many poeple do not see... More

The pearl of zin riverbed. great canyon to walk in, waterfall fountains it has them all. two possibilities for the walk, one is going back and forth to the lower entrance, the second option and more adventures if finishing at the top. in that case you will have to find the way back to your car. Feel free to ask... More

Very interesting archaeological locality in the middle of the Negev desert. This spot was important on the Incense route in the Mediterranean area. Created by the Nabateans in 3 Cet. BC, later it was inhabited by Greeks, Romans and Byzantines. All of them left their traces (temples, churches, garrisons, pottery workshops, villas, spas, burials...). The place was so important and... More
