You might already be used to hearing Bali's high-altitude destinations, such as Mount Agung and Batur. Did you know that there is another mountain that has a very charming view and is very close to Mount Batur, Mount Abang.
Mount Abang Kintamani is a location with Mount Batur, its position facing each other, Mount Abang is in the east and Mount Batur in the west. Having a height of about 2152 meters above sea level, Mount Abang is the highest point of the caldera embankment that surrounds Mount Batur which covers 13.8 x 10 km.
To go to the foot of the mountain takes approximately 40 minutes by driving a car. The route taken is from Bangli City straight north, in the direction of Kintamani. Arriving at the Geopark Museum, turn left toward the Suter.
Just like the mountains in general, the natural surroundings offer views of trees, and the tracking path to the top of the mountain is filled with plants and bushes.
It took about 2 hours 30 minutes with a long journey of about 6 km to get to the top of the mountain, along the way we will also find 3 Hindu temples that are sacred and sacred. The first temple penyawat temple, this temple is believed to be the guardian of Mount Abang.
The next is the Andong Temple, this temple is referred to as the temple preserver of Abang Mountain.
The last is the puncak temple, this temple is believed to be the ruler / owner of Mount Abang.
You also have to provide a jacket for the top of the mountain, because the wind that blows will make the weather cool.
If the rainy season you are also required to bring a rain coat.

Do not follow the map direction if you want to get the registration post, or you will ended at the abang village, down to the mountain.
The best way to get the registration post is by passing the Museum Geopark Batur, you find the three junction, and turn left. Just follow the main road, in about 8 or 10 minutes you will find the registration post.

Mount Abang is the third highest mount in Bali after Mount Agung and Mount Batukaru. It takes about 2 hours from Denpasar by motorcycle. Before entering the mount track, you should pay for the enterance ticket (just 10k rupiah).

come here solo hiking when rainy season. Amazing place, quiet, and gorgeous. From park area to Post 1 is easier, but from post 1 to peak bit challenging especially during rainy season. If you a beginner this mountain is recommended but please climb on Summer season

Me and my girlfriend spent many evenings researching Mount Batur and Mount Agung. Due to Mount Agung’s fairly recent activity this was quickly crossed off our list. The more we researched Mount Batur the more we read stories of the so called ‘mountain mafia’ that surround the mountain stopping anyone from climbing the mountain without a guide. After looking at the map again we noticed Mount Abang, the third highest peak in Bali standing 2152 meters tall. Our research turned to this mountain and we couldn’t find mention of any ‘mountain mafia’ or any requirements to use a guide. We hired a private taxi to take us up there and wait for us to finish to then bring us back. We set off at 3:30pm from the drop off point to get to the top before sunset, snap some photos and get back down before it got too dark. We followed a road, which on maps.me is shown to be a footpath, for about 1km before it turned to a dirt track. The first 2km is nice and easy. At 2km in the track turns to a footpath and starts to head more up hill. Moments before this a scooter went past us and shouted “stop there, you can’t go any further you need to pay”. To cut a rather long story short he said we needed to pay to walk up the trail, we asked him for ID and proof that we needed to pay so he rang ‘the office’. We refused to trust him and I asked him to type the company name off his ID into google which returned a Facebook page, confirming even more that it was probably a guide group and that he was trying to scam us. We told him that we had read stories about this happening at Mount Batur. After about 10 frustrating minutes I said we aren’t paying you anything and we turned and walked off. From here on the hike wasn’t as enjoyable as it should have been because we were worrying they might follow us with more people. As you hike up you can see Mount Batur to your left and Mount Agung to your right. The hike we did was 5.2km and took us 2 hours from the bottom to the top. You can ride 2km more which would easily take 30 minutes off the hike. The hike itself was beautiful and the views we had were breath taking. When we got back to the taxi driver he informed us that the guys had questioned him about dropping us off. Jay confirmed that what they were doing is illegal. If they had been more aggressive, or there had been more guys we probably would have paid them. Just a heads up that this clearly doesn’t only happen on mount Batur and to be careful!

A lot of upslope walking. Remember to bring a walking stick. It easier with a walking stick. 2-3 hrs to reach to the top. Nice view. Can see mount Agung from and mount Butur from different side.

Mount Abang is the neighbour of Mount Batur. If you're in Kintamani, just follow the road across Geopark Museum. For local we paid IDR15.000,- but for tourist IDR210.000,- (I'm sure it can be negotiated). We started climbing at 2am and reach the top at 6am. Don't forget to wear jacket and bring a torch/light. There is temple at the top, You can also bring a tent. Power nap before climbing is recommended because the trekking up is stiff.

We did this as a day trip from Ubud. A guy picked us up at 7am from our villa and drove us about 1.5 hours to the base. We picked up our guide on the way. We could have done it cheaper but couldn't be bothered to engage with hire a moped and inevitably getting into a dispute with people about entrance etc.
It was very early in the season and we only saw another 4/5 people the whole time. The route was pretty slippery even with trail running shoes and I'm not convinced it had been open for more than a few days in the season.
We started at about 9am. Wandered up in 1.75 hours taking lots of pictures and breaks. About half the time to come back down.
I'd love to go back and try a speed ascent and descent when the trail would be in better condition. Not touristy like Batur.

Mt. abang was not famous like mt batur, typically mountain with forest mt abang give something different than mt batur. Its more high than mt batur , approximately takes 3,5 hours walk to go the top. If you foreigner you need some guide even the path was very clearly. We start at 12.30 am to chase the sunrise. Want something different , try mt abang than mt batur

When you have Mt Batur, BAtur lake and the Kintamani highlands all in one area, Mt Abang which in itself is magnificent is overlooked.
