We did a boat trip from our villa to the other side of the lake and it cost us $100AUD for the 2 of us but I dont regret a moment. The cemetary is not for all people and is quite confronting.Traditional Hindus cremate their dead. Here they are left to the wind and the elements to return to dirt but not quite. If you decide to visit just be prewarned that you are going to see body parts and half decayed bodies everywhere and a pile of bones and rubbish off to the side.Very confronting but we wouldnt have missed it.Make sure you do the village first as they wont take you to the village after the cemetary so bad joojoo doesnt go into the village.I dont know if I would take children or maybe keep them out of the actual cemetary if they are sensative.I will not post the more graphic photos as it may be distressing for some

Unique experience. I am an end of life doula so death practices are a big interest to me.
This is an absolutely unique cultural experience.
I was amazed at the level of rubbish that is in and surrounds the cemetery / burial area.
The boat ride was also beautiful passing many fantastic views of the Volcano.

I have been wanting to go to Trunyan since 1985. Finally, I went and took a private boat for $70, it was a quick boat ride crossing the lake approximately 15 to 20 minutes. I was the only visitor so I got a private tour in the cemetery. I thought I was going to get scared but it wasn't scary at all. Please bring water and snacks because no store in the area. Leave early so you can get a private tour.

Very interesting to learn about another way of life. Very old village with rich culture. Not yet overrun by tourists and I hope it stays that way.

Very small place, interresting and unique story. Short visit (we stayed 20min and asked many questions)
The boat was 785 000 rupiah for 2, which is a shame because the boat was really unsafe.
+ they wanted us to pay 1 million (total) for donation but they can't explain you where the money is going. We paid only 800 000 total, which is to expensive anyway

Not worth the visit.
This was the most disgusting experience in whole Bali, cemetery is really small, just few graves surrounded with piles of trash. I have spotted a rat eating dead body-no thank you.
Don’t go.

If you visit Bali, you just CAN NOT and should NOT miss Terunyan Cemetery.

Arrived to the land that is closed to the island where Terunyan Cemetery is located on 17 Feb 2023 around 2 pm.
Our guide was an extra ordinary man “I Norman Darma” who knew this place and draw us there.

There was a lot of boat man who approached us and offered rates to take us to the cemetery.
We ended up agreeing one with few of USD 150 /person equal IDR.

They said, keep your valued items At the island in the car and not to the cemetery as “pirates” make take them.
We ignored and took whatever we wanted to take. No pirates came though

When we were there there was a recent funeral where the body placed placed on the surface 2 days ago.

It is a very unique experience the whole thing is extra ordinary.
Collection of body bones Separated as skulls at one area and other bones are at another.
I did not take the photo of the recent body and the others that lie down due to the respect of the individual however I can confirm that there was smell and the smell was severe.

Make sure you spend time in the village too, to understand the mindset of the people who live there and use that cemetery.

Miraculously, there was no foul smell coming out of the burial area. It is said that there is a tree called Taru Menyan which is able to remove the stench emitted by the corpses. This Taru Menyan tree became the forerunner of the name Trunyan Village.
To access Trunyan Village, you have to use a boat, on one occasion I went there, me and my friends took a boat from the pier in Kedisan, covering a distance of about 15-20 minutes at a cost of around Rp. 750,000 (Indonesian Rupiah) per boat filled with 7 passengers.
